Topic: Second GPU Posted: 08 Aug 2014 at 11:54am |
I bought a digital storm virtue with a GTX 770. As you probably know as you are buying a computer gives you options to put in other graphics cards and one of those options are a second GTX 770. So what i am wondering is can put a second one in myself or would i have to buy it with the one they put in.

Hi ironwar... You can put in another yourself. Just make sure you have a 750 watt psu or better and a motherboard that can sli.
What are your system specs? |

Installing a second GPU is not that hard at all.

If you have the motherboard for it absolutely and it isn't hard it all to install and connect the SLI bridge.

Yea... follow what bprat said. The other two are right, it's quite simple, but one of the biggest factors here is which power supply did you get?
Don't want to drop that $330 and find out you only have a 600 watt PSU. |

CPU: Intel I770K Power: Corsair CX600 Mother Board: Z87m-Plus Storage: 1 TB (forgot name) GPU: GTX 770 4g So i think i would need a bigger power supply. |

Yes, What do you currently have? My 750 watt Power Supply is running two OC GTX 770's fine and 750 is probably the bare minimum you want to run especially if you plan on overclocking later down the line. Just remember where everything goes when you plug the connectors back in. There are a lot of useful youtube videos you can watch to see what plug plugs into where.

Yes, installing a PSU is simple. I am not very technical in and around computers and I've done it.
So, a 750w PSU and another GTX770 and you're golden, apparently.
Edit... Reading comprehension not a strong suit today... Edited by Snaike - 09 Aug 2014 at 3:05am |

Unfortunately, neither the 600watt psu or the z87m-plus motherboard is enough. The z87m-plus mobo can only support a single gtx 770. The other Pciex16 black slot is electrically wired for only 4 lanes, even though it's 16 lane size, so would be poor performance. Plus that mobo doesn't support sli anyways.
Changing either is relatively easy if you know how but the mobo can be a little more involved. More to go wrong. Good luck. |

One possibility is the Asus Z87 Gryphon motherboard. It allows sli, 2x gtx 770.
Your Virtue case is the Corsair 350D and being a little smaller, can only hold a micro or mini ATX motherboard, which the Gryphon is. Also, I'm assuming your cpu is the i7-4770? If so, that is an LGA 1150 Haswell cpu, meaning the pin count, and will fit into the Gryphon mobo. There are other choices but you need a micro/miniATX board with LGA 1150 socket. Double check your specs before you buy anything. Hope this helps and good luck. Edited by bprat22 - 09 Aug 2014 at 11:16am |

Ironwar, building upon Bprat22's recommendations. You might want to opt for the Z97 variant of the motherboard for future proofing if the cost isn't much more.
