Budget:
3,200 - 3,600

Expectations:

This is the second time I'm buying from DSO. Bought my first PC from DSO in March 2007, but it's time for an upgrade!

Any advice would be appreciated. I can wait a couple of weeks if there is some new technology worth waiting for, but would like a new PC by July.

Would like to pair this PC with a 27 inch monitor. Looking at the Dell Ultrasharp, but if anyone has any suggestions! :)

Usage:
Gaming. Primarily MMOs.

Special Needs:

Don't want to get a water-cooled PC. Prefer a air-cooled PC.

Looks good!

Although I would personally get a sound card because it makes a world of difference in games and music.  I would also take a single 690 over 2* 670s if you could afford it for less microstuttering, less heat and power consumption, 16x slot usage, and the ability to free up your motherboard PCI slots for future upgrades and more efficient airflow.  It will also be a bit faster graphically.

Also, the Dell UltraSharp 27" is a great monitor for MMO gaming... its what I primarily do.  Although I have the 30" U3011 version running at 2560x1600.

Best of luck!

Interesting - I thought inboard audio was comparable. Didn't get the 690 because I heard it wasn't as efficient as venting heat out as the 670 or 690. I am eyeing the 30, but am afraid I will have to sit too far back from the screen! Might keep an eye out for a nice dell coupon and grab one, will ponder!

Thank you for the feedback!

It's true the 690 doesn't vent the heat directly out the back of the case as the 670 does, however as a unit it uses much less power and emits a lot less heat in the first place.  Do also note that you are using a great case for air cooling video cards because they will be shrouded and the air should be pushed out the back of the case anyways.  Your choice in the end!

One tip I have regarding the Dell purchase is to give them a call at their 800 number.  They love to price match with their major competitors and you can further negotiate with them.  Basically, I sent them to newegg where it was $200 off the price they had listed on their site and got it knocked down.  I also told them that newegg didn't charge me tax in my state and they knocked off another $120.  I purchased the U3011 for roughly 1k (regular price is 1399.99).  I've also been told that purchasing directly through Dell makes it a lot easier to get replacements in the case of bad pixels or defects, whereas they have big hoops to jump through if you buy it through one of their resellers.  They didn't hassle me at all regarding my haggling either, so if you're kinda shy don't even worry about it.  I imagine they would be more than happy to price match the 27" version as well.

Best of luck.

@HD,

Nice to see a repeat customer! Thank you for choosing Digital Storm again.
Your selection of two GTX 670's is perfect for the build. You don't really need a GTX 690, plus, it's a big price increase as well for relatively a small performance boost. The GTX 670's are great powerful cards.
Unless you have a high-end speaker setup, onboard audio will be perfectly fine.

@L2Phantom, thank you as well for helping out in the community, it's great to see everyone help each other out. Big%20Smile

Thanks L2P - great tip on the Dell, I will try that! Appreciate it tremendously!

Alex - I only use my headphones for the sound, and typically turn background music off, so I can use vent. So think I am ok on audio. :)

Plan to order in the next week or 2 at the latest.

Ok guys - getting ready to pull the trigger, just 3 quick questions on my final configuration (695302)

(1) Switched to 4G 670 GTX - is that overkill, if i'm running a single 27 inch monitor?

(2) Is the powersupply adequate with the boost in video cards?

(3) Anything else I am missing by changing video cards?

Thanks for all the suggestions already. Really excited to buy this bad boy today or tomorrow! :)

Hi HD.....That build is right on.   Awesome
To answer your questions.   .......
1.   The 4GB card will give you more vram to play with with the higher resolution monitor.
2.  The 1050HX psu is perfect.

3.   I don't see a thing that you've missed.

Best of luck and keep us updated ..Big%20Smile
