Good afternoon DS community,

In a bit of a bind here. I have a DS system with Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex Liquid CPU Cooler. Over the course of the year I have bought fans for the back part of the case on three occasions, because they would start making weird clicking and grinding noises in intolerable volumes. Fans are Sickleflow 120 2000RPM Blue Led Fans.

This time however the fans were hardly installed for 4 hours before they started again. I uninstalled them and noticed they were boiling hot, as soon as I let them cool of a bit they started spinning noiselessly for about 1 hour before they started making noise again.

I have included 2 pics because I am honestly starting to doubt I installed them right! First time poster, long time reader so let me know if they are too small. The case is cleaner than most, so it should not be an issue. The system was bought in Dec 2011, hope thats not why Cry.

Hi Rafikix..... Here's a link that compares different fans with the Corsair H80 cooler, which is what you have.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6177/choosing-the-best-120mm-radiator-fan-testing-eight-fans-with-corsairs-h80/5

The Sickleflow 120 was horrible. Don't know why except possible a static pressure issue needed to push air thru the rad. It mentions the fans were too hot to touch after a short while. Some fans are great case fans with no resistance to push thru and some are great for pushing air thru the resistance of a rad.

Looks like a different fan is needed.    Hope this helps and let us know how it goes.

Good luck.

I use the Gentle typhoons and they work great. I put one in my old system just to see what a difference it would make on my old v8 cooler. the fan that was replaced was a red sickleflow 120 as well. my temps dropped a few degrees.

Thank you so much for the replies. Sad to know I will have to spend more money on fans but delighted to know the real problem. Thanks for the link bprat22

Just ordered 2 of the Gentle Typhoons you recommended Kernols. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Currently working in south Mexico so I have to get them shipped to the border and wait for some friends to come visit.

First time I get a quick, honest, and helpful reply from a forum I follow, delighted about that as well. Smile

So sorry for the late reply. I was sent from work to a god forsaken town in the middle of "I am never coming back" for a few months that seemed to never end.

Finally had a few weeks of gaming to test out the fans. I bought these:

Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm x 25mm Fan - 1850 RPM for $19.75. They worked great, temperatures remained well and constant with Rome Total War 2 at High settings (Not Very High, that game is a monster)

Thank you so much for the help, and sorry for the late reply.
