Hello,

I just had my system upgraded to an I7-4820k, Rampage IV Black Edition, and 16GB of 1866MHz Corsair Dominator RAM. Currently the processor is liquid cooled and clocked at stock speeds.

I would like to take it up to around 4.4 or 4.5 GHz but I have no experience with this chipset and am looking for some guidelines.

I understand that the basic concept is to increase the CPU Ratio, test for stability, increase VCore if unstable and repeat.

So I was wondering about any settings I should make sure of before I start as well as a limit for VCore. I would prefer not needing to replace my CPU in the next 7-10 years or so.

Thank you
Saphira

While the 4820k isn't something I've personally touched and can't vouch for it's ability to really OC, as far as Ivy Bridge - E goes, especially on the Rampage IV Extreme and Rampage IV BE.  All you literally have to do is increase the ratio to 44 and leave everything else a lone. It's just that easy.  Your motherboard should automatically adjust the voltage to ~1.4v.  Only time you really need to start adjusting and fine tuning settings is at the 4.5ghz mark.

If you set it to 44 and it's not stable, go a head and fine tune your voltage to a starting point of 1.4v.  If it can't do 4.4ghz at 1.4v you unfortunately don't have a good chip.

asus suit 3 can overclock it for u   i got asus x79 deluxe with i7-4820k and it auto clock it up to 4790 mhzs for me just by running the suit program it set it at 37x with 129.20 cpu strap and 1.468vcore. i was able to hit 4920 with a little more vcore volt range and was doing benchmarks on hwbot at 5015 with extreme volts but noting id run 24/7 just volts i needed to benchmark . ya can do 45x with 100 strap and keep memory timings at 1866   which would give ya 4500 speed or u can lower muti and up your cpu strap till ya hit 4500 and also keep your memory timings at stock. iv also found 1600mhzs on ram with 9-9-9-24-1t give ya good results too

changing your cpu strap isn't recommended. I would never do it personally, unless I'm working on extreme OC's. The auto oc software's and the built in oc in the bios are not that great. Most of the time, they will give you too much voltage than what you could do on your. If your AI suite is changing your strap to 129.20... it's not something I would recommend. I would change it back, personally. But it's your build.

If you do just the multiple with some voltage changing you should be solid on an OC.
