Topic: older monitor and vanquish 3 ?? (edited) Posted: 05 Mar 2014 at 5:59am |
my sons Vanquish 3 arrived yesterday, Yay! and it fired right up (after checking
that everything was connected securely from shipping ) We are very
happy with it, thus far. My question is, we have an older monitor
hooked up to it, 1600x960 hp, will this affect the graphics ? We notice
when he was playing DiabloIII there was wavy lines across the monitor. It
wasn't doing it on any other screens. Is this a graphics card thing or a
monitor thing?
also, on the back of the tower are two, places to connect the monitor. I'm wondering if it's simply a matter of switching where we have it connected to? Thank you Sorry, had to edit, vanquish 3 not vanquish 2 my apologies Edited by eirian - 05 Mar 2014 at 6:18am |

That monitor should work just fine. Not sure about the wavy line with just that game. Just make sure if your using a vga to dvi adapter that you use the dvi-i port on the back of the gtx 760. There are two DVI on the back. The one with the most pins, an extra 4 around the small blade, is for analog and digital signal. Vga is analog. The other, dvi-d, is for digital only. The adapter, if you're using one, would probably only fit the dvi-i anyways.
There are also a couple of video ports on the motherboard itself, nestled in with the USB, audio, etc. Don't use those, just the video card down a little lower. Hope that answers it. Edited by bprat22 - 05 Mar 2014 at 6:32am |

yes we are using an adapter on the back of the gtx760, we are going to try other games tonight. and I have a message in to tech support.
I'm thinking (hoping ) it's the cable or the monitor itself i've just never come across this waviness before |

It could be the cable. It happens.
The adapter, now that I think of it, might be a vga to dvi-d. They have those also. Edit... You could try turning VSync off or on, try both ways, to fix the issue. Some games allow it in game or you can g to Nvidia Control panel. VSync On usually fixes screen tearing problems, as the video card syncs to the monitors refresh rate. It might be a vsync issue. I had very bad screen tearing in D3 on my old computer and on my vanquish 3. I had to use vsync for Diablo 3. Hopefully that will solve your issue. I was also using an older 1600x900 monitor
Also double check the correct resolution and everything is selected in the in game options. If that doesn't do it, maybe see if you can some screenshots of the issue and post them here. Edited by manowar09 - 05 Mar 2014 at 9:45am |

so we changed the cable from the VGA with an adapter, to a DVI cable, and it's fixed. LOL.
i'm glad i had a DVI cable to check before we got too involved in trouble shooting. |
