    Posted: 04 May 2013 at 11:24am

I received my custom Dreadnought on April 3rd, I wanted to wait for about a month to let the initial WOW factor to subside a bit.

This is my basic configuration:

Case: Cooler Master 942 HAF X

Processor: Intel Core i7 3930K 3.2GHz (Six-Core)

Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X79

System Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series

Power Supply: 1050W Corsair Pro Silver 1050HX

Hard Drive 1: 240GB Solid State

Hard Drive 2: 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black Edition

Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x)

Video Card: 2x SLI Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 4GB

Sound: Integrated Motherboard Audio

CPU Cooling: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 Extreme Performance

Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.3

Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition)

Extra 200mm top fan installed

This is my first custom built computer. My old computer was a Dell XPS 720 which is still running fine. My purchase was a desired purchase, not a required purchase. This was something I wanted, not something I had to purchase now.

I am still ecstatic about my new Dreadnought computer. It is even better than I expected. Much of my computer use is with Matrix Games War in the Pacific Admirals Edition. This is a very large, detailed war game. I play it Play by Email(PBEM) and it is a wego game system (we both input orders and then the turn is executed). It does not require much in the way of graphics, but I do have multiple programs( as many as 12 ) open at the same time and some take a lot of memory. I also play RPG games and at the moment I am still immersed in my heavily modded version of Morrowind. I get very good frame rates with settings at extremely high settings.

I have had only one hardware problem so far, the DVD reader disappeared. Re-seating the data cable took care of that problem.

The bottom line is that I am extremely happy with my purchase and would certainly recommend Digital Storm to any that asked.

The required picture of the VERY LARGE box

I love the look of the Noctura CPU cooler.  Very neat installation.

Ready for some action.

Night action time.

Another month of use and no problems at all.  I upgraded my 24" u2407 @ 1920x1200 monitor to a 30" U3014 @ 2560x1600and had no problems.  The 2 GTX 670s are driving it fine and my 24" is the second monitor for data display.

I now realize that I have no experience with customer support because they built such an awesome machine that I haven't needed any.  Hahaha

For DS AwesomeAwesome

Great news Nomad! I have had mine for several years with no trouble. I just ordered an EVGA Titan SC to replace an old EVGA GTX 295 today. You will find that your system will still be great if you want to upgrade in a few years to the latest and greatest.

Time for a three year update.

About 3 months in I had some BSODs that were tracked down to a bad memory module.  DS replaced that free of charge( I paid shipping as usual ).

After I installed the new RAM modules I still had a few BSODs.  It took a bit but reducing my OC from 4.3 to 4.2 took care of that.  I guess the new memory modules were not quit a good as the first ones.  No problem since I really can not see any difference.

The only other problem I have had is the front fan on my HAF X died and I had to replace it.  Easy to do and didn't even bother DS about it.

I am still extremely happy I went with this custom rig from DS.  Most computers will have a hiccup or two and mine is no exception.  I have recommended DS to other potential customers and will continue to do so.

I also added a second SSD ( a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB ) with no problems at all.  It was on sale last Black Monday for $77.00.  This give me lots of space to put games and eliminates the need to swap files.

I guess it is time for a four year update.  No new problems cropped up this year, although I thought I had one.  One of the top fans quit working, so I bought two new ones.  When I went to install them I found that the plug on the one not working was loose and the fan was fine.  So I do have two new 200m fans for a HAF X.

I am pretty sure that I will be updating my GPUs this year.  I plan on replacing my two GTX 670s with a single GTX 1080 ti.  I am waiting for the EVGA three fan version to become available and to see if the reviews are favorable.

Still extremely happy with my DS purchase.

I received my new EVGA GTX1080 Ti SC2 today and installed it.  I had no real problems, I did have to figure out the release button since I had never taken out a newer video card. I installed the drivers from the disk that came with the card and after a bit of set up, everything ran fine.  I ran a Heaven 4.0 benchmark and these are the results.  The temp maxed out at 78C and the fans at 2553 RPM.  I have not done any tweaking of any kind and I think I probable will not do much.

It looks like it is time for my 5 year update.

I think that my original Corsair SSD is getting a bit flaky.
I couple of months ago I did a shutdown and when I restarted the computer it came up with no boot sector. So i reinstalled Windows and things looked fine. But lately I have noticed some jerkiness in mouse movements and such. So I took out that SSD and put in a new Samsung 850 EVO I had bought. Windows loaded fine and I had done all of the updating and such when it also would not boot up. I put the Corsair back in and things work OK, but I still think there is a small problem. I have purchased a new Samsung 860 Pro SSD and will be doing an install in the near future to see if it clears up any of the small problems I see. I did install that Samsung 850 in another slot and did a format and it seems to work fine, just not sure what happened.

All in all, it still is a kick ass machine for being 5 years old, although I have updated the GPU, but I am sure the original 2 X GTX 670s would still be fine. I did luck out and purchased my 1080 Ti before the prices went haywire.

If I ever do buy another computer, it will be from Digital Storm without a doubt.

Thanks for the update, I really enjoy hearing about "older" machines that are still kicking. Strong
