My new Krypton laptop finally came in today! First impressions are great, gonna be spending a while downloading everything for it and setting it up! One small issue is that my Blu-Ray drive doesn't read my Blu-Ray movies... Not sure what's up with that, any advice? Other than that I love it, full review to come, pictures to come if I can get them to upload!

Let's see some pics!
Regards to the drive not reading movies, you are going to need to download software that can read Blurays and their encryption for playback. |

Congrats on your new Krypton laptop.
Windows 8 and I believe Windows 7 stopped providing Blu Ray playback software for movies.. You'll need to buy it separate. There is a note under 'more info' in the configurator that mentions it. Cyberlink Power DVD is one that is mentioned. Good luck and enjoy. |

Thanks Nav and Bprat, there was a cd that was in the folder that was cyberlink power suite or something like that, would that be the right software? And I have to wait until I can get to some wireless before I upload any pictures, as of right now all I have is my mobile connection and the pictures are too large to upload...

The CD included doesn't work for playing Blu-rays either. It's limited to DVDs and some DVD and CD burning. If you happened upon my review of the Krypton, I mentioned the lack of playback software as a slight detriment. I purchased Cyberlink PowerDVD 14 on my own to play back Blu-rays.
There's also WinDVD, I believe, and a few others. But you will need to make a separate software purchase. Glad to see you're liking your Krypton so far. Enjoy! |

So, an update to the previous post, I bought powerdvd 14 and it didn't seem to do anything, I'm thinking again something happened during the build and I got the wrong part. Is there supposed to be a Blu-ray logo on the drive itself? If so, all it says is DVD multi drive...

No, as I also mentioned in my review, the Blu-ray logo doesn't show on my drive, but it definitely plays them. I just watched one on it last night.I was very concerned about that at first. My drive shows up in Device Manager as an HP BDDVDRW CT30L, but not sure if DS is using that part since I got mine. Even if it's a different one, you can take that model number and check online to make sure it plays Blu-rays. If it's supposed to, then make sure that PowerDVD is fully up-to-date.
When you insert a disc and run PowerDVD, what do you see? Does it identify the disc. Also, did you only by PowerDVD Standard? You need Pro or Ultra to play Blu-rays. |

I did buy power DVD pro, and I'll have to check on that model number later, but I'm pretty sure that power DVD doesn't recognize the Blu-ray discs, at least, when I put it in my computer, it tells me that the disc drive is empty... I'll look up that part number and get back to you in a little while.

So an update to the previous, turns out DS put the wrong part in my machine and I actually got a regular DVD player, I got a hold of them and they're sending me the right part, didn't have any issues with customer service they made it a breeze! Thanks for the help from everybody that posted!
