Hi guys,

So I got my new Krypton a few weeks ago, and am just now getting to learn my way around it. Games are playing great, now I am wondering why when I insert a BluRay movie.... nothing happens. The drive doesn't make a sound, No auto play seems to kick in. I see Windows Media Player is already installed so shouldn't it play through that? The drive itself worked fine when I used it to install some printer software.

Any thought? Thanks.

This was probably discussed on the forums but i forgot where but if i am not mistaken i believe you have to get software for blu rays to be able to play. I could be wrong but someone on here can clarify.

Pretty sure windows does not come with that.

Ummm.. I guess not? I assumed since it came with the BluRay player that some form of software would be installed to actually play those movies.

I did a few forum searches as I had seen this mentioned before as well, but I came up empty and it had been awhile since I had seen wherever it was posted.

Maybe there was a CD in the box that I missed? The box is in storage now though.

Unfortunately, no movie player comes with it.   It does mention it in the config, under more info....

Some have mentioned Cyberlink Power DVD as a recommended playback software .  But, you have to pay for it and I don't know of any good freebie software.  Others might know.

I went to storage and got the Cyberlink Power DVD software that came with it. It does require additional purchase to the tune of $135 inorder to play BluRay. There is currently a sale of 55% off that price until Friday. I will look around today and tomorrow for cheaper options before I do that. Guess I didn't see the disclaimer when I ordered it. Oh well.

Thanks again BPratt, I hope DS is paying you for fielding so many questions on this forum.

Something called VLR has been mentioned, iirc, for the players...

As bprat pointed out, no Blu-ray movie playback without special software that DS doesn't provide.

Cyberlink PowerDVD is a good choice, as is WinDVD.  Just make sure you purchase a version that plays Blu-ray movies.  The cheaper versions do not.

VLC (VideoLAN) has been mentioned as possibly playing them back, but even with the hints that you find on the net on how to set it up, I've never gotten it to work.

Best off paying for commercial software.

You might wanna check your extras box, if they gave one. I bought a lance recently, and DS actually included a little Cyberlink installation disc for me! That really impressed me, I didn't even notice I had it until after I wrote my review :o
