I purchased a Digtital Storm pc about 5 years ago and it has proven undoubtedly one of the best purchases value for money across any medium in my life. However, I'm long overdue for an upgrade and considering my video card finally bit the dust I need to make said upgrade now.

I was thinking of picking up a gtx 970 but would the 760 with a ram upgrade be the better choice for my money?

What would you do if looking to get another year or two out of an aging PC while saving for that next Awesome DSO rig?

Are you debating the GTX 760 over the 970? The GTX 970 is a MUCH better performing card and should get you another year or so of 1080p ultra gaming.

That's more or less it, I just want to get another year or two out of my pc before I order another DS rig and was wondering if I should just get a 970 rather than say a 760 and upgrading my ram from 6gb to 12gb. What's the better bet performance per dollar spent?

You'll get much better gaming performance going to a GTX 970. 6 GB ram is a little below the 8GB standard nowadays but should be fine as long as you don't have a lot running in the back while you game.

Also one more point to consider the 970 over the 760 is if you decide to replace your system.. you still might be able to use the 970 in the new computer ... I seriously doubt you would do the same with the 760 card

If you cut down on the background tasks that consume memory, you should be fine with 6GB.

One last question: if I were to upgrade my ram, what's your recommendation considering my motherboard? I would be looking in the 150 range give or take.
