Specifications:
[EVGA X58 3X sli motherboard]
6GB DDR3 1333 Mhz Corsair Dominator DHX memory
Intel Core i7 920 2.66 Quad Core OC to 3.3
Video Card - ATI Radeon HD 5870
PSU - 750W

Greetings all,

I purchased my Digital Storm rig about 5 years ago now, and it's finally starting to truly show its age.  I'd love to upgrade since I can't afford to purchase a proper new system right now.  I'd like to spend somewhere in the $300 - 400 range if possible.  Above are the important specs.

How I can I best spend my upgrade dollar to give me a couple more years?  I'd like to add more RAM, but what should I do about the video card?  Is it worth it to upgrade or should I just ride it until I can't run anything new and put my upgrade funds toward a proper rig?

Thanks!

Hi Rdexter....... I would drop in a gtx 970 in place of your HD5870. Strong

The gtx 970 is about $350 and will give you a huge boost in gaming......

You mobo and psu will handle it, no problem.  Your mobo is Pcie 2.0 and the card is 3.0 compatible, but it is backward compatible with no performance loss.

6GB ram is still very good for most gaming.  8Gb is pretty standard, but you're still good to go.

Hope this helps.  Big%20Smile
