So I've been trying to look up reviews for the Javelin laptop and for some reason I've barely found anything, but what discussions I have found on other forums mention how it's actually just a rebranded Clevo, specifically the W35SS model it would appear. This is slightly concerning to me, as prior to finding this out, it appeared that the Javelin was an original, newly designed laptop by Digital Storm. Can someone clear up this confusion for me, and if it is a rebranded Clevo, why don't I just get it from Clevo instead?
Its kind of making me question the credibility of the laptop and its legitimacy (my bad if that's the same thing haha). I know I'm probably jumping to conclusions, but I'm skeptical when shopping for expensive purchases that I can't first see in person. |

Digital Storm doesn't design their laptops but are distributed Sager and Clevo models. In parentheses beside each laptop you'll see the Sager model number, for example. Sager/ Clevo share designs.

so is there anything that DS does with the model to like, enhance it in any way, and make it "theirs" or is it really just a Clevo, renamed the Javelin?
I heard Clevo/Sager battery life sucks alot. |

I believe they're Clevo/Sager, inside and out.

so... is it worth buying it from here, or just get it somewhere else? Is it even a good laptop? I haven't been able to find many recent reviews of it, and the ones I have found say like "incomplete review" or some other crud

I don't own a laptop and don't spend any time comparing them so maybe others can help there.

My time on the forums and experience helping with laptops, desktops, tells me gaming laptops run hotter than desktops and need a bit more work to keep them cooler. I wouldn't call it an issue, just that laptops are so compact with limited airflow that the cpu and gpu can run hotter, but in the safe zone. Extra effort is needed to keep dust from building in the fan, heatsink and vents, but canned air on a regular basis fixes that. Keeping the laptop on a hard surface is important.
Not an issue with heat, just normally runs hotter and keep it dust free. |

I am actually very excited about this laptop. my current desktop has an old intel Q9300 2.5 Ghz and an Nvidia geforce gtx 650 ti boost. its a decent desktop, plays all of my games better than id expect it too, and literally, this laptop coming in has a graphics cards of the same capability, but a better processor that is literally gonna be like night and day hahah, and upgraded RAM too, since my desktop still has old ddr2 ram.
This is going to be a humongous leap in terms of power, and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes me a few days to get used to the difference haha |

That'd be me. I still don't use any kind of cooler with my Krypton. As long as I blow the dust out of it every so often, it runs relatively cool. I'm running a heavily modded Skyrim with ENBs and many graphics mods and still not maxing out the fans at all. No CTDs at all since I added a mod that changes the way Skyrim uses RAM. I'm very happy with it so far. As for the Javelin, it's hard to say. The Lance's Clevo case is almost exactly the same as the Krypton's, so I'd be confident in thinking it will run fairly cool also, though maybe a bit hotter since it's a smaller case. Out of curiosity, what has you looking at the Javelin rather than the Lance as they're both 15.6" models? |

it all came down to price and the size of the chassis
i was able to fit in windows 7 professional, upgraded thermal compound, intel dual band, and rush delivery, the $21 coolermaster cooler, and a t shirt :D, for just a little higher than the price of the level 1 Lance. You might say that rush build is unnecessary, but i had to do it because xotic pc screwed me over and didnt warn me about the month long delay on two different parts that were in the laptop i ordered, so i had to cancel that order 9 days in (and at that point it still said the order was processing, because of the delay), and place another order for another laptop, with about 11 days before i start college. so i'm really hoping the javelin is everything it seems to be Edited by Hofulu - 22 Aug 2014 at 11:21am |

While we do use a Clevo/Sager barebone, there is a lot more that goes into a laptop than us just sticking our name on it. The laptop is only a barebone, our team has to still install components, run stress tests and benchmarks, do a quality check, and then offer our warranty and lifetime support with it. When you buy from Digital Storm, you're not just getting the components, you're getting far more than that with your investment. I hope this helps clarify things. |

I'm not familiar with this, but I can say my Krypton runs a lot longer on battery than my last laptop (even when it was brand new). Now this may be due to a variety of factors, like new Nvidia Battery Boost, Optimus getting better as the years pass, etc. And let's face it, gaming laptops with these super-powerful discrete graphics cards are never going to be the greatest for gaming on battery, especially as they ramp down the cores when not on AC power. But anyhow, this Clevo chassis and battery are certainly doing better than I expected. |

I suspect you'll be happy with your purchase. Can't wait to hear how it works for you at college. And we want reviews too! More laptop reviews means more laptop buyers and then DS makes their laptops even better because of the success they're having, right?! |

Picture this: Digital Storm custom laptop cases, not just desktop cases. The equivalent of a Bolt II or Velox or Aventum in laptop form. |
