How to replace optical drive on DS laptops?

I'm considering a purchase of a DS laptop, but I need to know if the optical drive can be easily replaced.

Can anyone post instructions on how to do this? Would there be any difference in how to do this amongst the different laptop models (i.e. Krypton, Behemoth, etc.)?

Hi thenardier... Welcome to the forums.

For most, flip over the laptop and just below the optical drive is a small cover you'll remove. Once off, a couple of small screws removed and the drive can be slid out the side.   The manual for the laptop has an Upgrade section that shows how to access the various parts.

It appears to be a pretty simple process according to the service manual.

Just remove one of the bottom plates, remove a screw that holds the optical drive in place, and push it out and put in the new one by reversing the process.
