My DS system is in bad shape, and I think it's the overclocking that's problems. I need to undo the OC settings in the BIOS but I don't know what the stock settings are. Here are the mobo/CPU/RAM that I got:

Processor: Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 965 3.2GHz (Quad Core) (Extreme Performance)
Motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Dual SLI or CrossFire)
System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz OCZ (High-Performance)

Currently both the CPU and RAM are OC'd. The CPU is supposed to be running at 3.85GHz but it's messed up and everything is running as if it was a 286. I'll post screenshots of the AI Tweaker section of the BIOS shortly.

Here are the pictures I took of AI tweaker in the BIOS (they're not very good, the camera on the HTC EVO 3D is terrible).

EDIT: inline doesn't work, I'll just give the links.

too late, it's dead now. saw a post in the tech support forum about reseting the BIOS to defaults if you didn't know how to undo the OC, so I reset the BIOS defaults, then it no longer recognized my hard disk as a boot device. I booted to DBAN's cd-rom and ran an HDD util on it, saw some strange message about the disks. I'm wiping them right now and will try to re-install.

You probably just needed to change some of the SATA settings, as they would have reverted back to default and there is a good chance that was what was causing the problem. However, let us know how it turns out. Awesome

Loading BIOS defaults and a system no longer booting is due to three reasons:

1. Boot order may be incorrect, change the boot order to boot off your hard drive.

2. You may have a RAID setup ordered, you need to change the SATA controller to RAID mode.

3. Your hard drives may be running on AHCI mode, change the SATA controller to AHCI if you don't have RAID.

I think #3 is it. I ordered with 2 x 300GB 10K RPM SATA drives but I never had them set up in a RAID, instead they were seperate volumes, C:\ & D:\. I noticed that the hard drive seems to be very slow, both when attempting to boot with windows and now when I'm trying to re-install (file copy from the DVD seems to be stuck at 0%). Going to set it to AHCI and see if that helps.

EDIT: yup, that was a huge improvement. windows install copying files took 30 minutes before, after change only took 30 seconds. Thanks.

EIDT2: spoke too soon, now Windows won't get [ast the initial file copy.   I need lunch, haven't eaten yet today and it's making me cranky.

You'll need to re-install windows (Format) with AHCI on if it was recently installed with it off.

yeah, i'm trying to do that, but now the hard drive doesn't work. windows install fails, and when I ran hdat2 it gave an error and wouldn't read the drive info.

What exactly happens when you try to install Windows when it fails?
