Good afternoon all,

I purchased a system a while ago from DS and I am wondering if I should go SLI or not.  Here are my primary specs:
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 3930K 3.2GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Six-Core)
  • Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X79 (Intel X79 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s)
  • System Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested)
  • Video Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 2.5GB (Includes PhysX) (EVGA 025-P3-1579-BR)
  • Power Supply: 850W Corsair TX850 V2 (Dual SLI Compatible)
Primary purpose of the machine is gaming and currently running two 21" monitors in 1600x1200 resolution each.

Question:  Should I buy an identical vid card (Geforce 570 GTX HD) and go SLI so I can move up to a 24" or 27" 120hz or 1080p screen resolution?

Could I effectively run a that 24" or 27" widescreen at it's native resolution and 1 of my old monitors on my existing setup without experiencing any lag/stutter/failure?

Another Question:  Would I be better off ditching the old card (still runs great) and upgrading to a series 7 with PCI-E 3.0?  Would I still need to purchase another card if I wanted the same size monitor/refresh rate?

Hey thanks for any input, been pondering this for a long-time. Figured I would ask the experts before I plunk down duckets :)

Hi capto0924....   You still have a strong system but the 570 might be feeling it's age if gaming on very high settings. I wouldn't invest in another older 570 but instead go for a gtx 770. It'll give you just a little less than sli 570 performance and get rid of any potential sli issues.   Less heat, less power used and much better than the single gtx 570. The gtx 770 will play real nice on a 1080 monitor. The gtx 780 is better gaming but more money. Depends on the budget.

Good luck.

You can run either card with a 1080 monitor and one of your older screens but it will take frame rate away from primary monitor. If the second monitor is just for web,etc then not a big penalty off gaming on one.
