This isn't pretty ,just a scan of my order. What do you think? I ordered shipping in a wood box. Is that overkill ? Edited by Bully - 13 Oct 2009 at 6:55pm |

should be a nice computer.
are you overclocking it yourself?
I would not have went with the hard drive choices you chose..1 the 1 TB would have been the same size, and just as fast, and a lot more reliable.

should have gone with a 920.
should have gone with a veloci or ssd for HDD1. should have gone with classified, with 2 gpus and the wireless card you have no more room for upgrades as far as gpus or any pci related upgrade like a sound card for example, however if you have no intention of upgrading anything like that on this pc or ever getting a 30" monitor with this pc then you are ok. should have gone with the Noctua NH-U12P instead of the v8. no need for upgrade fans, no need for LCD temps display should have gone with haf for better airflow. should have oced the CPU, fsx takes advantage of faster cpu speeds. you can find office 2007 for a better price on newegg or amazon. Thanks for the review justin and DST4ME.
I am not really into this stuff ( obviously),but I did some thread reading. (1) I thought two smaller hard drives were more reliable that one big one (2)some other forums suggested the 950 over the 920 (3) maybe I'll try a SSD later. Prices coming down mavbe. (4)I do photography. New 24 inch NEC screen coming. That is as big as I will go. I use two monitors. (5) HAF for better airflow but no need for fan upgrades for the Hailstorm ?? I be confused ! (6) I am a chicken and wanted the DS guys to install and test Office 2007 because I wanted at least something to work correctly (7) Is the wood box overkill? (8) I don't think the DS guys will take kindly to me calling to change things now (9) I should have posted the configuration BEFORE I ordered |

1. 2 HDDs in raid gives better read/write speed but the raid itself could fail, so a single HDD is better, personally I don't like a 1TB HDD as HDD1.
2. don't believe everything you read. 3. 2010 should be a good year to get ssds 5. with the fan upgrade for hailstorm still you don't get the same airflow, also upgrade fans bring noise, hailstrom is more for a pc that is LCed, it does not have great airflow., unless you threw 3 x 120mm fans on top then you would come close but more noise for sure. 6. installing software is easy, you need help, we can help you here 7. IMO the crate is a good idea since you can use to ship the pc back if it needs to go back to DS for repairs and so far none of the crate deliveries have been bad. 8. they are very easy going and helpfull, call Sarah at 1-866-817-8676 Extension: 115 and she will set you up 9. that would have been a great idea but you should be able to make changes still. |

Thanks for the guidance. I left a phone message for Sarah to call me back plus sent a message via my Order Number with most of the changes that have been suggested.
If I were Sarah, I would yell at BULLY for not doing it right the first time and say that Bully should be happy with whatever he might get in the mail ( which is why I have never been in Customer Service |

yup. I talked with the DS folks and all is taken care of.
Plus I just got an update from them on Stage 3. I will post endless pics of the baby's arrival. What should I name it?!? My second internal Hard Drive is now HAL. My external 1TB drive is Bubba. I might carry these names over to the new baby. |

In preparation for the new baby:
(!) I have my Logitech G19 illuminated keyboard now, (2) Also got my NEC LCD 2490WUXi screen, (3) Started to gather my original CD's of various programs for loading. This is my biggest concern since I am going from XP to Windows 7. I hope I can load and get updated drivers if necessary. (4) Actually my biggest concern is getting my Mozilla/FireFox stuff---- passwords, bookmarks on the the new rig. I hope that I don't have to re-enter all of that stuff |

Installing a fresh OS will require you to have to re-update everything. With the install of I7, that will automatically install drivers you need in the install , and when it's updating, you will also have any OS driver updates install at that time too. You will need to download FF and then re-bookmark all your favorites again. That doesn't happen automatically. And, since this is a fresh install, you will have to re-enter your user name, email and passwords the first time so FF can remember them when you go to the site. If you've been using IE, you can always import all your bookmarks to FF to keep form having to manually enter each one in FF. I mirror all my bookmarks from IE to FF. This keeps me from having to do the manual thing. Edited by EdH63 - 18 Oct 2009 at 5:05pm |

Thanks for the info EdH63. It doesn't sound pretty.
If the following question needs to go in a different Forum Section someone please let me know: ( i am obviously not experienced at this)----Could I just e-mail myself links to my bookmarked sites from my old computer to the new DS rig and then bookmark that into Windows 7 FF ? I know it would not include the passwords but at least I would not have to key in the addresses of hundreds of sites ? |

if you are talking about exporting your favorites from ff to ff then you just simply open ff go to "bookmarks" then go to "organize bookmarks", here click "import and backup", and choose "export html". now save this html file some where, then when you install win7 and then install ff, open ff on win7, follow the same things as above, but this time instead of picking "export html", choose "import html" and point to the html file you saved. all your favorites have been transfered. many thanks to EdH63,harleyman and DST4ME. I have printed your instructions
and will report back ( right after I screw it up Instructing me on how to do computer stuff is like writing instructions on how to tie your shoes to a five year old-------pick up one lace ( either right or left ) with one hand of the similar side, raise it 90 degrees perpendicular to the ground, take the remaining lace and cross it over 90 degrees to the first lace but on the far side of the first lace, then thread it 180 degrees to the back side of the first lace, all while keeping the proper amount of tension on the vertical lace. When you get far e-mail me for the next phase----- |

I just got my Stage 5 update. I hope the baby doesn't turn to toast
during its' Phase 2 stress-testing -----the lights here in Florida just got a little dimmer so I think the Digital Storm techs have drained all the power between here and California to sock it to the Mobo (liquid cooled by Hoover Dam during this Stage |

Luckily I am having electrical work done in the room next week so it is good that the new rig is not going to be here for a while.
That said , I have increased my meds to deal with the present stress |

Thanks for the heads up Venom.
And while we are waiting---of course I have another question : I have two choices on where to put the rig (1) Close to everything now (all cables will reach) , but it will be right in prime desk space and practically in my face OR (2) About five feet away which will require five foot longer Cables for the two monitors and the USB for the Logitech G19 keyboard. If I go this route Should I buy extension cables and a female/female function for each of these three cables or just buy longer cables ?? I assume 10 foot cables are ok but wonder how long is to long for good signal transmission ? If I need junction blocks what part numbers are these ( because I looked at NEWEGG and got lost in all the options . (PS---cables for the two printers, Router, and external WD hard drive will reach at either position that I pick) |

First of all, if you have to buy any cables or signal splitters for your monitors you shouldn't be on newegg.com check out www.monoprice.com By the way, I use a 4-way splitter for one of my computers and my longest cable is a 25 foot run and it works just fine.

(Tuesday). Electricians will be here in a couple of hours ,so I will have all of my stuff off until Thursday. So I will not know if DS sends me any notices |

Customer info shows my Order was Picked up ( but I don't know when it was picked up). UPS doesn't show any information under my Tracking number yet.
I would assume that UPS will use LIMO service for this instead of the usual truck! |
