Looks like Nvidia is taking the crown back and lowering the price for people who want to go with ATI still.

win win situation for us customers

I find it intresting that its running on 896mb memory per card. Which in a sense is 896mb total memory since the second cards memory gets wasted. Seems kind of low and the card might run into problems just like the 98GX2 did with its 512 mem vs the ultra and 88GTX.

Ive been looking at this card and waiting for it, but it seems like i might just have equal performance or even slightly better with my 2 GTX 280s. The only way to see a boost would be to quad sli these things, and honstly my PS probably couldnt do it, nor would it probably be that big of a boost even if it could.

So unless something changes...i guess im staying with the 2 GTX 280s till something better arrives.

It is advertised as having 1.79 GB of memory because that is the physical memory on the board. But each GPU is limited to its own 896 MB memory. Just like with GTX 280 in SLI, each GPU is limited to its own 1GB of memory.

As to them deciding on using 896 MB GDDR3 instead of 1GB GDDR3, it is probably because of the sh*tty economy right now and possibly a marketing decision as well.

The GTX 295 is essentially a die-shrink hybrid of the GTX 260/280 in SLI. So there isn't really a reason to replace your current GTX 280 SLI set up unless you are swimming in money.

I don't know how they did it but the GTX 295 is a winner! Especially since the performance will get even better with improved drivers.

I'm glad nVidia didn't come up with a dud. I wonder what ATI will release next?

The GTX 295 has a MSRP of $499 if you actually read the previews.

And it's that not quite impressive since it is expected of Nvidia to be performing well in games that are part of the "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" program.

In the review they really should have used the GTX 280 FTW version of the 280, and not the 260.  That would have been a better comparo seeing as that would put it against its replacement.

The GTX 295 is not replacing anything. The GTX 280 is being replaced by the GTX 285.

In the PCPER review, I'm assuming they wanted to show the single gpu vs double gpu performance.

anyone seen any gtx285 benchmarks? Also are they going to phase out the gtx280 so we will never see it at an affordable price?

GTX 280 will be EOL when GTX 285 is released. It's why most of them are under $350...
