Bill if you had a different thread, its best if you posted there, cause the details of people's different situations are hard to keep track of, so your own thread with those details will server as a quick reminder.

If you didn't have your own thread, then forget everything I said up there, lol.

based on what you said here, this is what I think:

Build looks great, make sure you add this fan to the side so that you endup with 3 x 200mm fans, for best airflow:

haf 200mm non led fan

if you want the led version of this fan let me know.

My only other main question would be why not go SB?

Ok, sandy is going to be a wait, and is not really proven. The i7-950 is plenty powerful for gaming. That's my logic.  i might go with sandy if it is available sooner than i expect though.

I did have other threads, was not thinking.

OK but cpu's don't need to be proven, its preformance has already been proven, it kicks 950's butt, even my cpu the 980x's butt. but, lol thats technology.

I highly recommend you to get the SB, the fix is due mid march, maybe april, but if I was buying today, I would want the most power for my money, and that is exactly what SB offers, plus in 2 to 4 weeks is exactly around the time that the fix should be here or be a week or so away from getting here, its up to you.

Ok, 'Final' Config here.  488752

Purely for gaming, one gpu (no sli / xfire ever) Can get a better single gpu two years down the road if needed.

SSD for windows and the games I am playing at the time.
1 tb hd for backup and space if I need it. I also like having two drives in case one fails. I can just reinstall on the good drive and dont look back.

So what does the extra 200mm fan cost?

With postage this config is about $2600. Not bad considering how pricey SSD are.

Will I be able to order this on March 18th regardless of the status of the Sandy Bridge?

Thanks

Everything looks great Bill except the fan upgrade, they are loud and not needed.

instead add this fan to the side:

haf 200mm non led fan

You can order now but you will be placed on hold till the fix.

Acckkk!! I meant to take out that case fan upgrade!

So I am pretty set; I just have to ask for the haf 200mm non led fan in the comments section.

Seems like an amazing computer for aprox $2500

Now I have to SUFFER waiting for it to arrive!

Yes ask them specifically for the mentioned fan.

The system is a beast, no doubt, you will see when you get it

Hi DST4ME,

Since Bill47 has his system figured out I have a question about the 200mm add on fan. I assume that is the side fan for the 922 case. Should it blow in or out?

How is the 240gb corsair SSD speed/reliability wise compared to the 120gd Intell SSD?   The corsair is cheaper per gb, but that would suggest the Intel is better?

I can't find a comparison, or review of the corsair.

Plenty of positive reviews of the intell.

Thanks! now I just have to learn not to fill my drive with clutter. Is there any truth to the  idea that the ssd will slowdown if it is too full?

That was true for the first line of ssds like 2 years ago I think.

As justin said, no question about it, Intel is the way to go with ssd.

HDD setup is suppose to be like this:

HDD1 = fast small drive: os/apps/games

HDD2 = regular large drive: media/personal/work file storage

with a 120/160GB intel ssd, the above setup should leave you with lot of room on your ssd.

@FrankW, that fan fits the side for 922 or the top for the haf x.

for the side fan I like it to blow cool air in, specially since that is right over the gpu, it will help them a little bit with cooling.

Should I be happy with the haf 922 + extra side fan and stop second guessing myself on cooling? :)

Not sure to be honest, I hear asus is shipping fixed mobos this week possibly but when is DS scheduled to get theirs is a different story right, DS says march/april, but that was announced a few weeks ago, I'm not sure if the new updates by intel/asus have changed anything.

I had to endup waiting a total of 1 year for mine, due parts and etc.

Its well worth the wait, so I think a month for a beast like that is easy to do.

My old Digital Storm I am using now to play games is a Core 2 Quad Q9300 with a 8800gtx.   It performs pretty well but I can't wait to see the new 2600k+gtx570 put it to shame!

Looking good! the request for the extra side fan is in the config in the comments section, so I am good to go.

Hopefully the sandy bridge parts will arrive quickly.

I will have Dragon Age 2 before I get the new computer, and I think there is a law against installing a game on an old pc when a new one is arriving soon!

I saw a 250gb intel SSD is on the way soon, but it is probably going to cost $600

So tempting, but soooo expensive.

So tempting, but soooo expensive.

If the upcoming G3 Intel SSDs manage to deliver, they are slated to be around $1/GB. So the 250GB would be around $250-300, if they manage it.

Ok, I would love to get a new 250GB ssd for less than the 160gb one costs now. Sounds too good to be true. And when will they arrive? Should I get the new computer without the ssd, and buy the ssd later?

Is reinstalling my computer from the recovery cd on a new ssd later going to bork my system?

Alternatively I don't want to wait forever for my new computer.

I have limited experience with reinstalling systems on drives. Once I had a raid drive die, and was able to go into the bios and disable raid. Then I used the 'Image' cd to reinstall the system on the remaining good drive. Worked like a charm; not that I knew what I was doing, really.

But I am somewhat paranoid that I will 'ruin' my system if I install a drive later :)

The Intel G3 drives wont be out till April I think the one,s that are coming out right now are not the G3 drives (510 series are not G3 drives). The G3,s will be on 25nm nand whereas the 510,s are still using the 35 nm. I would wait till April or buy your system now without the ssd and then add one in April on your own. Just my .02.Chilling

@Bill47, thats is the road that ssds are going, because they started expensive, their prices will only go down, so as dragoon said, if they can manage it, a 250GB gen 3 should cost less then a current 160GB and be a bit faster too.

to move stuff you can either do what you say, or clone the current drive to the new drive and move os/apps/games/files/everything over at once.

you can follow my clone guide here

@gametamer, you are correct the current ssds comeing out now are not gen3 and are not good at all actually, so far the 510 is something to avoid.

I have read that a 6950 gpu can be flash upgraded to the equivilent of a 6970.

Sooo....If I selected the 'Overlock my GPU' in the configurator, is that the same as a flash upgrade?

I know very little about overclocking.

The 6950 costs a lot less than the 6970.

Too good to be true?
