The RV03 is SS's third gen remodel of the Raven case series, as some have probably observed the Ravens are getting progressively improved. The Raven 2 featured a smaller profile than the RV01, and also had 180mms directly feeding air to the CPU/NB section that the RV01 lacked, as well as adding a 2.5" bracket internally. The RV03 further improves on it, taking the gigantic depth the RV02 still had and shrinking down the entire case by sticking the PSU up front. HDD space was preserved and even now allows full usage of all 5.25" bays upfront (7 I think? Didn't count); this was achieved by placing the HDDs behind the case. The case comes with double 180mms in the mobo area, and lets you mount two sets of two fans up in the front bay area if you want, another fan at the case rear, and a final fan on the right side panel to supply air to hotter hard drives if you have them (The180mm fans are staggered in a way that was designed with thermal testing of the HDD area so that the most HDDs would cool off better). Can't wait for this thing's release!
Finally tracked down the RV03 at CES, looking forward to this case's release! Size of my RV01's getting cumbersome in my new locale, as well as my NB getting a bit choked and the internal wiring layout being pretty restrictive; I might look to the RV03 sometime in the future. (Lightbulb turns on [discreetly bumps topic as well]) I just had the craziest thought about LC with this rig.
Anyone that hasn't seen the video yet, watch it, and everybody turn your attention to 1:40. It's an excellent side angle shot of the case allowing you to see the internal 120mm fan mounts within the 5.25" bays. You guys thinking what I'm thinking? Look at the spacing on that, anyone think that it would allow for a dual radiator??! (Even if it might not, you could technically just hang off the dual rad off the first fan mount) That'd just be sick right there; I mean imagine it! It's a pair of 120mm slots, you could mount a pair of dual radiators internally right then and there internally. Couple that with Scythe 1150rpm GTs, and the low pressure air coming out of there would immediately get exhausted internally into the flow of the 180mm fan right in the CPU area, and not interfere with the half of the system that has the GPUs! Insane! Oh, let's not forget there's also a back fan mount that allows another internal single rad if anyone wants more internal LC potential (This would feed in air above most high end nvidia card blower fans from the looks of it). Even so, you could probably install large exterior rads on that spot too, just using the mounting holes from that spot. Might have more if not equal to the LC potential of the TJ11 out there, in my opinion, and it's also drastically smaller in a mid-tower form factor (And it's somehow able to cram in EATX too). Man, IMO I think that just kicked up the Raven a notch Justin, your opinion...? Edited by ablahblah - 03 Feb 2011 at 11:32pm |

(bump 2) If anyone's keeping track at all, lol, I got an email back from Tony Ou (In that vid) of Silverstone; he's saying that the mounts aren't going to fit dual rads perfectly. However, like I said, you can easily just mount up a fan in one of the mounts, stick a dual rad on that fan, and have the second fan cooling the rad but not necessarily hardpointed. That would still work perfectly for a double 240 rad, single 120 rad internal setup I believe

Post's already been made about the TJ11 btw.
I like the RV03 better than the TJ11 though, i mean it's smaller, should cost less, and crams in the same if not more radiator potential. |
