see I told you, in games above 1600 x 1200 res the 6 core does not make much of a difference.

but its funny how its killing all in every other category

Yeah it really kills in some things, good stuff.

Disappointing to see that it makes zero difference in some games though, I guess they aren't programmed to take advantage of more cores. STALKER: Call of Pripyat was one that didn't, this makes me sad, I love the STALKER series so much but they're not programmed well/efficiently. Question

as the res goes up the gpu becomes more of a factor in fps then the cpu, don't get me wrong the cpu still makes a difference but the big player becomes the gpu, at lower res then 1600 x 1200 however you will see cpu play a much bigger part in fps.

I said it will make a difference when you hang a bunch of GPU's off it... a single stock 5870.   not much of a challenge, just need an i3 for that.

I'm talking about getting 60fps, if I'm getting that with one gpu then I don't have a need for 3, tho I'm sure in multi gpu the 6 core would perform better but if its over 60 fps then gamers won't care, it would be like getting 2 gpus so you can get 120fps vs 70 fps from a single gpu.

I was far excited about "Cinebench R10 uses Maxon's Cinema 4D engine to render a photo-realistic scene of a shiny motorbike." when I first read it, I wasn't even aware that humans could see the 4th dimension!  After more thoroughly researching the topic Maxon's Cinema is only a 3D application.

Well at least the 980x overclocks very well, 4.7ghz on water, yes please.  It is slightly disappointing that they don't have any video cards out there that can stress the CPU enough to see a real difference in gaming.  O well, at least Gulftown is killing it in the application world outside of games, we'll see how the 970 does when it get released.  I wish they would release new quad core 32nm PC CPUs before 2011.

It should speed up the computers turn in Heroes V on the ultra sized maps though, 3 minute turns x5 computers makes me cry.

the 970 will do just as good if they oc it to 4.7GHz IMO.

For my applications which are basically pure number crunching and programmed to take advantage of multiple cores, I'd have a major gain in performance to upgrade to a 980x, especially O/C to 4.7 Ghz. Will DS be able to O/C it that high and when will DS have systems with the new chip?

thx .. neilkaz ..

DS will probably get you 4.0 to 4.2 which is the current stage 2 oc.

If I pay up for better cooling, how high do you think it could get? What I am asking is if I go all the way to stage 6 cooling, what improvement can I expect for oc or should I just use a somewhat lower stage since further oc won't be possible?

Thx .. neilkaz ..

DS is just not gonna push your oc that high and I'm not sure at what oc speed your warranty might be nulled.

stage 3 and above are the same, the difference is adding LC to gpu and chipset, but it does not cool the cpu any better, if anything adding the chipset to cpu line might make it a little more warmer.

in short best cooling for cpu is stage 4, above that there is no change to cpu cooling as far as it getting better, and DS will not push your oc pass 4.2GHz at this time.

you can talk to justin ahead of time and see if he will help you oc your cpu higher, he might want you to go with a particular ram and other specified parts as far as rads and etc goes which will cost more money.

amd chips never perform as well as intel, only in gaming you may not see the difference but in other things intel is on top for performance, also there are cheaper 6 cores coming out from intel also.

in short I'm just saying that you are not getting the same overall performance for less.
