So you were talking about your folding rig, and I found you a mobo you might like:

Dual-socket 1366, 12 DDR3 slots, and 7 PCIe x 16 slots.

Wait say what.... Dual socket i7?

And what's the name of it exactly?  My memory is a bit bad right now, so I already forgot that one other existing motherboard that had a dual socket LGA 775... Skull..

SKULLTRAIL!

So what this is a new Skulltrail version?

Nah, it's a server board. Sucks for speed, but great at massive calculations, which is what Folding is about. Requires 2x 8 pin CPU power connectors, too.

But DST, considering you were looking at LCing your 295s, you could put 7 in this thing. O_O

Only 'con' is that you have to use the 1366 Xeons, but those still perform pretty close to the regular, b/c on this board you use the Nehelem based ones.

CPU is not that great for folding anymore, the wus get harder to fold and your folding time will drop, and CPUs can't always be upgraded continuously, where as the GPU fold pretty fast and can be upgraded easily over a long period of time.

besides, I want a rig that I can play with the OC with

server based platform does not support regular GPUs as far as I know, I would have to get Quadro GPUs.

*googles*

I'll report back. Either way, 7 LC'd quatros could do some serious damage in folding (probably rival the 295), just you'd only get like .5 fps in Crysis lol.

Edit: Nothing yet, however, have fun catching up to this guy:
