Topic: display driver has stopped responding... Posted: 16 Feb 2012 at 7:45pm |
Hi folks,
I've beem getting this error pretty often (once an hour or so): "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered". Some games (like SWTOR) recover from it pretty well. Some (like LOTRO) do not, and I have to kill them and restart. I've searched for the problem online - a lot of people are having it, but there's no definitive solution. I've got the latest NVIDIA driver (8.17.12.8562). I've tried various SLI configurations. Currently I have one monitor plugged into each card, and my second card is set to be my PhysX processor. Could this be related to over-clocking? Any ideas what I can try? Any help is greatly appreciated! Here's my system: Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe (Intel P67 Chipset) (New & Improved B3 Revision Without SATA 3G Issue) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1050W Corsair Pro Silver 1050HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: 320 Series) Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (Model: Black Edition) Video Card(s): 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 2.5GB (PhysX) (EVGA 025-P3-1579-AR) Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Corsair A70 Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler CPU Boost: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard) Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) |

Hi JK....it does seem to be a somewhat common problem..and a pain
Make sure you don't have alot of stuff running in the background...check in Task Manager, Processors or Applications tabs Download and run HWMonitor and check your gpu temps while running stressed. like in- game , UniGine Heaven benchmark, Windows Experience Index, etc. for awhile. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html Temps have to be below 80-85c. Reload drivers or switch back to an older driver. A long shot ..I haven't seen but others have...plug rig directly into wall outlet to bypass surge protector Good luck.. I get this error every once in a while as well. It is completely random and sometimes even happens when I'm doing very little (like browsing this forum with only IE open). I do not believe there is much that can be done at this point :(.
