Hi forum.
I have win8.1 with a ASUS BC-12B1ST blu ray player, with an I-7 5820. Can anyone recommend a good Blu-ray software package to use for my DS rig? |

Cyberlink PowerDVD and Corel WinDVD are the major offerings on the market. Unfortunately ArcSoft no longer makes TotalMedia Theater, as that was my favorite. I have had issues with Corel WinDVD in the past and right now I can't get center channel audio when playing back the majority of my Blu-ray disks on Cyberlink PowerDVD (This could be a compatibility issue with Windows 10).

Ditto on WinDVD and PowerDVD being the best choices. I haven't used WinDVD, but I've used various versions of PowerDVD over the last several days, first for DVD playback and then Blu-ray from version 8 on up.
If you buy PowerDVD, remember not to buy the Standard version as that won't playback Blu-rays. You need to get Pro or Ultra. |

I am going to try the VLC route (have to google search for the details) first. If I can't make it work I suppose I will get PowerDVD. Only reason I dont like them is Ive had the experience where an older version would just quit after a year or so of total non-use. Forced upgrade. And of course the upgrade can be pricey. PowerDVD has this way of getting continuous revenue stream once they set their hooks in ya.

If you get this working, please post details. I've tried multiple times over the years with multiple versions, even using my AnyDVD HD, and have never gotten VLC to work with Blu-rays. |
