Any suggestions on where to sell a gaming pc?
I bought a pc here on digital storm 2 years ago. But right now i need money so i'm trying to sell it. I payed 6.6k$ for it. So its a pretty good pc. Might be a bit hard to sell that. Any suggestions are welcome. I have so far posted on craigslist and looking into reditt today. But no luck yet. |

If you sell something of that value on Ebay be prepared for massive fees and be sure to take every single step to protect yourself (because Ebay is hardcore pro buyer). Not saying don't use Ebay, its an option, just be careful.

Another thing to bear in mind is that computers depreciate rather rapidly. Not quite a bad a depreciation as new cars but it can still be rather steep. Companies usually depreciate their PC workstations on either a three or five year schedule.
You'll probably find that your machine was worth every penny that you paid for it when you first bought it, but now you may be fortunate to get a third of the original price when you sell your rig. Good luck. |

I don't recommend selling something of that magnitude on ebay and here is why.
1.) Even if you're a premium/premier member with paypal or a regular seller/buyer on ebay, they will still hold your funds until the buyer receives the computer (if it sells, meets your reserve, etc). This is so wrong in my opinion as it does NOT protect the seller AT ALL. You have to wait for feedback and then they release the funds with paypal, otherwise you have to hound the buyer (who will most likely ignore you) and paypal. It's a big massive headache, don't do it. (I had over 1,000 transactions with paypal, I was a premier account holder, etc, frequent ebay buyer/seller and STILL had the freaking hold.) 2.) Like Tidgxor said, the fees will be in the hundreds for a sale of that amount, and if you have a reserve and it does not meet the reserve and sell, you will STILL have to pay Ebay's fees! I use to swear by Ebay and Paypal, but not anymore. Not after I had been an excellent user and customer with them and they pulled that crap with me. The buyer ignored me and never gave feedback, so I had to call paypal to release my money. And they said if the buyer decided it was broken, damaged or just didn't want the item any longer, they held the money so they could give it back to them! So I would be out the item and the cash! It was ridiculous. Their new policies do not protect the sellers at all. And having to wait TWO WEEKS AFTER the buyer receives my item is INSANE. |

Those are solid points, and there is actually something in there (for the 14 day hold thing) that isn't good for buyers either, it removes your credit card company from the equation. I don't like the program as a seller (for obvious reasons) or as a buyer. I like to keep my CC company involved as a buffer between me and Ebay/PayPal at all times, even with their history of being pro-buyer.

From a (very) casual user of ebay/paypal, I also have had no issues or concerns with any purchases. It seems with the information presented above by sls0991 the system is slanted toward users like me. I had no idea that's how the seller's system worked.
I ~always~ give immediate feedback. I thought it was just being polite. I didn't know that was a required step for payment. Thank you for the lesson. |
