Hey everyone, first i'd just like to say thanks for taking a look at my thread, i really enjoy this site and forum and ive had a lot of fun using the configurator over and over again to find just the right build.
A little background, i have built a computer before so i am tech friendly. I'm planning this build with idea to save money on my graphics card and build the best possible core system for future upgrading. I was originally going to do a build with a 970gtx sli, or a single 980 however the 900 series seems to have literally hundreds of online posts about microstuttering, framerate drops, and other technical issues with no resolution in sight, which is why i went with a cheaper but more reliable AMD Radeon R9 280X 3GB. I also plan on upgrading the memory, and hard-drive in the future. Budget: $2000. Expectations: Hardcore gaming machine Usage: Gaming Configurator id: 1128752 Specifications: System Model: SLADE Chassis Model: Corsair Obsidian 550D Processor: Intel Core i7 4790K 4.0 GHz (Codename Devils Canyon) (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Z97-PRO (Intel Z97 Chipset) (Features 802.11ac Wi-Fi Connectivity) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1866MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 850W EVGA SuperNOVA Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (120GB Samsung 840 EVO) Storage Set 2: - (will be upgrading to additional storage soon) Graphics Card(s): 1x AMD Radeon R9 280X 3GB Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Corsair H110 280mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler (Extreme-Performance Edition) Noise Reduction: Noise Suppression Package Stage 1 (Optimized Airflow & Fan Speeds Only) Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-Bit Edition) Edited by sum420gt - 08 Jan 2015 at 5:53am |

Hi sum420gt.... Welcome to the forums. Looks good but just an FYI.... the H110 or any 240/280mm rad will mount under the top, requiring the top acoustic cover to remain off. If you picked the 550D for quiet, it still will be, but not as quiet as if a 120mm rad was mounted against the inside back wall.
No overclocking? Of course, you can do it yourself, but just asking. Good luck and stay in touch. |

Hey bpratt, thanks for the advice! My main focus is to have the best performance possible so i dont mind a little extra noise. Plus i am a headphones gamer so fan noise isnt much a concern.
I actually picked the 550d to help mitigate the noise for powerful fans to do overclocking in the future. Edited by sum420gt - 08 Jan 2015 at 5:50am |

My pleasure.
I would, just me, get the gtx 970 over the 280x any day. The 970 is up to 40-50% better frames with some games and a bit better power usage. But, I haven't done much looking into the 280x lately, but do remember the web loaded with people with stuttering with the 280x also. Maybe recent drivers, etc have changed all that. Not knocking the 280x. It is a strong card. |

the 290x would be the equivalent card to the GTX 970 not the 280x.

So after many hours spent in forums, getting advice, and looking up reviews and benchmarks i have decided to go with the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1. Appreciate the help here guys!
