ASUS GTX 780 Ti DirectCU II OC Review and Benchmarks

ASUS GTX 780 Ti DirectCU II OC Review and Benchmarks

Introduction and Specifications

Featuring ASUS' custom DirectCU II OC cooler, the GTX 780 Ti we are looking at today is well equipped to run cool and quiet while delivering insane performance. The Direct CU cooler on the GTX 780 Ti features two fans that help keep the temperature around 73 degrees Celsius while running factory overclocked at 954 Mhz on the GPU core.

The ASUS 780 Ti features the GK110 GPU with 2880 CUDA cores and 3 GB of GDDR5 memory on a 384-bit bus. While reference design 780 Ti’s have a design power of 250 Watts, the dual 8-pin PCIE power connectors help the ASUS variant pull up to 375 watts allowing for better overclocks.

It is important to note that this ASUS card is larger than reference designs at about 280mm. Its PCB is both longer and wider, mainly due to the beefy cooler.  Thankfully, ASUS has included at metal backplate to help add support to the card due to its weight.

Build Quality and Design

An interesting feature with ASUS’ new DirectCU II OC coolers are the changeable stickers. These allow you to color match the graphics card to the rest of the components inside of your gaming computer.

As far as I/O goes, you'll find the standard DisplayPort, HDMI, and pair of DVI outputs.

Benchmarks

Battlefield 4

In Battlefield 4, the ASUS graphics card was 2.6 fps faster than the reference design and when overclocked, beat the reference card by 8.1 fps.

Bioshock Infinite

Bioshock Infinite is where we saw some of the greatest improvements. The ASUS GTX 780 Ti was 5 fps faster than the reference design and about 13 fps faster once overclocked.

Crysis 3

In Crysis 3, the ASUS GTX 780 Ti was .9 fps faster than the reference design and about 5 fps faster when overclocked.

Heaven 4.0

In the Heaven 4.0 benchmark, the ASUS card was about 3 frames per second faster than the reference design. When overclocked, it beat the reference design by about 5 fps.

3DMark FireStrike Extreme

In 3DMark Firestrike Extreme, the ASUS version of the GTX 780 Ti stuck around the same score group of the reference NVIDIA GTX 780 Ti.

Temperature

The ASUS GTX 780 Ti DirectCU II runs much cooler than the reference design at about 73C.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the ASUS GTX 780 Ti DirectCU II OC offers great performance without an insane price increase. The added power capabilities make this card a great overclocker and it even supports voltage control. One of the design features that helped this card stand out is the changeable stickers. This makes it easy to match parts the color scheme of your build.

Being that the graphics card is overclocked out of the box, it makes it easy to enjoy playing games on the highest settings without having to tinker with anything. The overall design of the card is also something to note. Albeit some may not like flashy design, it fits well with the gamer look and definitely feels at home in our gaming computers.

What are your thoughts on the ASUS GTX 780 Ti DirectCU II OC graphics card? Do you think all graphics cards should come with a changeable color scheme? Let us know in the comments below!
