When we use the term “memory” we
usually refer to “physical memory” which are the chips that have the
capability to hold data whereas when we use the term “storage” we
mean disks or tapes. There is also a concept called “virtual
memory”, in this type of memory some space of the hard drive is
reserved for use just like physical memory, but of course it is nor
as much efficient as physical memory.
There are different types of
memory for example RAM, ROM, PROM etc. RAM is the acronym for Random
Access Memory. RAM is a volatile memory which means the data saved
in it is lost when the power is turned off. The main purpose of RAM
is to bridge the gap between a fast processor and a slow to access
storage device like hard drive, CD/DVD Rom etc. Any application we
run e.g. a game or office application has to be loaded in the RAM
first. From RAM the processor can directly access the desired
application.
There are different technologies
in the RAM e.g. DDR, DDR2 and DDR3. The main difference in these
three types is their bus speeds. More bus speed offer much better
performance in loading different applications especially games. DDR3
is currently in use by the graphic card manufacturers but it might
soon come as a RAM chip as well.
When you want to purchase more
memory or RAM for your system you must first determine that the RAM
chip type (DDR or DDR2) is compatible with your motherboard.
Moreover all of your RAM chips should have the same bus speed for
optimal performance.
RAM is available in different
capacities e.g. 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, 1GB and 2 GB. If you are
looking for a basic system for using internet then 512 MB is
sufficient for you. But if you are a fan of latest games and other
graphic intensive applications, latest operating systems and
office/business applications then you should opt for at least 1 GB.
You will get most out of you computer by purchasing 1 GB.
All of our gaming computers come
with the most efficient memory configurations to provide the fastest
gaming experience possible. We offer both Super Talent and Kingston
memory which have now been known to be industry leaders. |
