Hello fellow DS fans! :) I've been thrilled with my DS comp for the last 3 almost 4 years, but it is getting time for some upgrades. Here are the current specs
Chassis Model: HAF 922 Processor: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X58 (Intel X58 Chipset) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Video Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB With about $350 to spend, i really need to get the biggest bang for my buck. Also as an aside, does anyone happen to have any tips on navigating the case? Everything DS installed is so snug and just so o.o |

I can start and say I would look at getting a GTX 770 video card. You can find them at about 350.00. Everything else is pretty good and I think it would be the best upgrade.
I'm sure someone who knows more than I will say something in a bit. Edited by Nomad1970 - 09 Mar 2014 at 7:10pm |

3 things most often upgraded (in order of preference):
1 - GPU - the most important piece for a gaming system (770's run about $350±) 2 - SSD - helps boot & load times (250GB Samsung's are around $200±) 3 - RAM - keeps things running smoothly (especially if your getting a lot of hourglasses!) (12GB - 3x4GB - will probably set you back $150±) Normally once it's time to switch out CPU/Motherboard, it might just be simpler to get an entirely new system. Hope this helps!! |

My vote is the gtx 770. Huge performance increase over the 570.

EVGA is a popular pick because of support but they are all good cards. I would try to stick to a single fan, reference card because the dual fan cards empty extra heat into the case but the haf922 should handle it. Plus, for the gtx 780 line of cards, the overclocked cards do help but not so much with 770.
Can't go wrong with any so maybe get what the budget allows. |

With your large case, I'd go with this one...
EVGA SuperClocked w ACX Cooling GTX 770 $369 - Cheapest of the lot with a factory OC for about 10% more performance... |

I agree with everyone that the GTX 770 is a solid choice.
Down the line, you should definitely consider adding an SSD and migrating your operating system over to it. It won't have much impact on gaming performance, but it'll make your general computing experience much snappier - vastly faster boot times, near-instant application loading times, etc. It's probably the biggest quality-of-computing-time advancement of the past 5 years. |
