I really was looking for a desktop replacement, but I was told by management that DS will not be offering X17E laptops due to the chassis manufacturer, Clevo,
having run into issues with the hardware. So at the moment, no X17E laptops can
be purchased.
So I was looking into the x17 and at this config.. Chassis Model: Digital Storm x17 Laptop (Model: 9170) Display: 17.3 Inch (16:9) (Resolution: 1920 x 1080) (Glossy Surface) LED-Backlit Display Processor: Intel Core i7 3820QM (2.7 GHz Turbo Mode to 3.7Ghz) (Quad Core) (8MB Cache) Thermal Compound: Premium IC Diamond CPU and GPU Thermal Compound (Reduces Thermal & Laptop Noise) Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Primary Hard Drive: Intel 240GB SSD (520 Series) (SATA 6Gb/s) Secondary Hard Drive: 750GB 7200RPM (SATA 3Gb/s) Optical Drive: Blu-Ray Player (Blu-Ray 6x) & DVD/CD Writer Wireless Card: Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1103 (Reduces Latency for Online Gaming) Video Card(s): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M 2GB with NVIDIA Optimus Technology Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Warranty Plan: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty 80% of the time it will be sitting on my desk connected to a docking station... Toshiba PA3927U-1PRP Dynadock U3.0 Universal USB Connect Docking Station and the Monitor I have is the Dell 24 U2410 Being a "mobile" GPU would the GTX 675 be able to handle 1920 x 1200 on the Dell 24 U2410 ? My DS desktop is almost 3 years old... GTX 480, i7 930 2.8GHz, MB EVGA X58 LE and 160 SSD In your best guess..... how much of a performance increase should I expect with the laptop compared with the older desktop ?? slight/moderate/high ?? The games I play now are WoW and SWTOR and my desktop destroys them... although SWTOR runs my GTX 480 very hot.. hehe Future games I'm looking to play are GW2 and Daiblo 3... I'm sure the this Laptop could handle them, but I would just like to be sure. Thanks for your time and answers |

In all honesty, you won't get the same gaming performance in a gaming laptop even the X17E than you would with a desktop grade GTX 480.
The X17 and X17E can run all of the latest games with high visual settings, but when you want to run at a 1920x1200, you won't be able to max out the visual detail settings.
