Hey all, so, got my shiny new PC not long ago. It seems to like popping up at me a dialog box saying something to the effect of "Your PC is running too slowly for Aero to work, do you want to switch to a basic theme?" and this has me really confused. It just seems so completely wrong that my 3.9 GHz i7 is slowing down enough to cause something like this.

I'm quite unfamiliar with Aero, and even Windows 7 in general. Is there something I can do to fix this, or...?

how much ram did you get? you should only get that error if you got lot of stuff running, or something is wrong with ram not being seen.

6 gigs worth of ram. At idle, the task manager is showing 17% utilization of it.

Aero can slow down performance significantly in lower end systems, and that warning should only show up in lower end systems. If your system is displaying that message and you have a high end rig, you may have some sort of hardware issue present that isn't allowing you to use 100% and only maybe say, 10-20% of the hardware potential, or you're just using too much memory. Like DST said, Memory is usually the culprit, whether you be using too much or the motherboard isn't recognizing enough..

Confirm you have 6GB, check System Properties in the My Computer window to make sure.

pay no attention to this, happens randomly with 7 with no regard to your hardware, it actually happened to me an hour or 2 ago with RE5, happens randomly with crysis sometimes

whats worse is the "dont tell me again" button doesnt work either, i was actually getting ready to look up a way to disable this when i saw your post

Are you doing anything in particular when that message pops up?

The reason I ask, is that I too just got a DS rig not all that long ago and I had that message pop up once while Alt-Tabbing out of Left for Dead 2. However, my performance didn't suffer in the slightest and all my RAM is identified everywhere I look.

If its happening to you frequently, while doing one thing, it might be an issue related to that software.

I think every time I've got it was after alt-tabbing from or exiting WoW. I don't have any other games to test with, but chances are they would too if WoW is "taxing" the system.

If it's an ignorable issue, I'm cool with that. Was just wondering if there was something weird going on that I should be aware of.

LOL I leave aero on with no problems, and I'm folding on 4 gpus and cpu is under full stress all 24/7, on top of that you can add my over 50 tabs in opera, photo editing, p2p, and etc.

Under System Properties it says 6 GB, but does it say anything else? like "(3678 available)"

if is a problem with games you can always disable it for during games, or as justin said, if you don't care for it, disable it.

I like some of the features, having lot of apps open, its great to be able to see thumbnails of what is in the task bar for example, its makes things much quicker for me.

@justin, please don't bring up Bieber again, its hard enough to ignore him other places, now I got to hear about him here
