Topic: Windows Activation Technology Posted: 12 Dec 2014 at 6:13am |
Recently my wonderful Digital Storm PC has been getting Windows Activation Technology messages popping up, interrupting whatever is running to say:
This computer is not running genuine Windows To use Windows without interruption, this computer needs to be running genuine Windows. With genuine Windows you have access to all Windows updates and can be confident that your Windows software has the latest security and reliability enhancements from Microsoft. Resolve online now Resolving online now involves paying Microsoft $109. Two questions I have: 1) Why would anyone who bought a PC from DS get this message? 2) How do I stop this and let Microsoft know this is (supposed to be) a real copy of Windows w/o shelling out $109 for something I already own? |

There should be a website/phone number listed to re-activate Windows. The Windows activation key should be on the right side panel of your ODE.
I also have an ODE from 2011 and haven't had the issue, so other than a major component change, I don't know why it would pop up. A call to DS if all else fails might be needed. Keep us updated in case others have the issue. |

**RESOLVED**
Ok, here's the deal. My PC had the OED product key on it from DS. Funny thing is this apparently was not an issue for microsoft for the past 3+ years... Thanks to bprat22, I easily found my windows product key. Then I went to microsoft (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/activate-windows#1TC=windows-7) and followed the steps. This community rocks! |

Here's a good KB article for future reference.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929 Microsoft actually has a dedicated Activation Hotline you can call if you run into issues. |

From what I understand, the small updates we get from MS that say something about a malicious removal are actually MS way of looking for non registered / illegal / pirated copies.
I guess your machine happened to trigger something this last "Update".
