Hi VideoGameReject. ..  I'm not sure.  I would call or email DS or wait a bit for Alex to stop by and answer this.

Its a good question I haven't seen yet.  Others would probably like to know, also.

It depends.

I like windows 7 and it is a solid operating system.

I dislike the interface of windows 8 so for myself it would be to stay with Windows 7.

If you do not mind the windows 8 interface or are willing to spend time relearning how to do basic things on your new system then windows 8 will be fine.

More and more customers are asking for Windows 8. It's difficult, yes I know to transition to a different UI, but, it's becoming more accepting now that everyone has got use to it. Minus the change we all have to make to how the UI is, the performance, task manager, file transfers, etc... are better than Windows 7.

This is primarily a customer helping customer forum.     Email and ask them at the link I posted above.   They will get right back to you.

Let us know but my guess is that its a ready to ship rig with little changes allowed.

It would be nice if you could downgrade it. I only like windows 8 on tablets, definitely not on pc. The Vanquish lvl 2 has windows 7, thats what I ordered

Ok guys i got an answer to the question. Unfortunately you cannot get Windows 7 on a model that comes with 8 because the systems are prebuilt. Thank you for all your help sincerely

I would think you could get anything you wanted, even prebuilt, but it would cost you extra. DS motto "You Dream It and Will Build It" !

I really do not understand the issue with windows 8. I have 3 gaming systems not counting my sons laptop that we just got from DS. On my system I installed windows 8 about a month ago. I mainly game ... I see no down side to windows 8. Feels a bit faster, I have my desktop, the metro start has its advantages, Also explorer (not IE 10 explorer) is more robust. Like I said I use both windows 7 and 8. My next system (I should order in the next couple weeks) will be my 3rd DS and It will have windows 8 on it.

Just a FYI

I don't really like the moving around to millions of tabs. its a little too much for a pc. Just me, I would understand why people would like it. But I like standard things, I'm already familiar with windows 7 and I don't feel like changing to 8. 7 is basic, just the way I like it

It was more being bothered by little things. I hated booting up into the modern ui and having to waste a few seconds each time clicking into the desktop.

I have this tendency of hitting the windows key to leave games real fast to check something online and it put me to the modern ui where I would have to click again back to the Desktop.

I am sure I could have relearned things and changed settings or downloaded one of those programs that added back the Start menu.

Instead I just gave my old system to a family member and bought a new system with windows 7 so I would not spend time relearning how to work on my computer.

Everyone has to decide for themselves if they want to mess around with little changes or stay with what they know.

The big decision will come in a few years when you have no choice.

That's my question with 7 vs 8. My DS rig is 4 years old. My raptor tanked and new one on the way. I figured upgrading from vista was a good idea. Is 8 going to be the OS for the next 3 years or is it going to be another vista? gone in 9 months because nobody liked it. If so I'll just get 7.

My vote is for Win8. Going forward, it's going to have better support & performance for gaming (and other applications). DirectX11.1 gets a boost using Win8 and it'll only get worse for Win7 going forward (at first DX11.1 wasn't even available for Win7, but MS watered it down and made it work on there). Just my 2¢.

I may breakdown and go with Win 8. When I got my system 5 years ago I went ahead and went with Vista which wasn't that bad then converted to Win 7. I just hate thinking about the grief of having stuff maybe not work after a conversion. But without a doubt I would go Win 8 for a new system.
