I'm looking at getting Windows 8.1 Pro to make use of its remote desktop (host) functionality.

I used to use remote desktop for an old employer years ago but don't know a lot about it, especially the latest version.

As I understand it, if I get 8.1 Pro on my gaming PC I can run the Remote Desktop (host) software on it and be able to connect to it from any other windows machine running the Remote Desktop (client) software. Is this correct?

At what state does the host machine need to be at for it to work? Eg, at the login screen but not logged in? (basically powered on but nothing else).

How/where would I get the IP/address of the host machine?
