Budget:
Around $1,360 Ok, I want to know what is the better buy, what should I upgrade (if even an option), and if anyone would recommend either: An Ultimate VANQUISH II OR The Better JAVELIN 15 I really don't have a use for the laptop's portability, however, I noticed that it had less memory but a better CPU. Meanwhile I would have to also buy a wi-fi card for the desktop or a wi-fi cable that would make me have to drill through some dry-wall. So I'm stuck and need some help. The Ultimate VANQUISH II: $1,259 Specs: - NVIDIA GTX 770 2GB - Intel Core i5 4590 CPU - 8GB 1600MHz Memory - 120GB Samsung EVO SSD - 1TB 7200RPM HDD - Upgraded CPU Air Cooling - ASUS H81 Chipset Motherboard - 600W Corsair CX Power Supply - DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW - Microsoft Windows 8.1 OR The Better JAVELIN 15 $1,357 Specs: - NVIDIA GTX 860M 2GB - Intel Core i7 4810MQ CPU - 8GB 1600MHz Memory - 120GB Solid State Drive - 750GB 7200RPM Storage HDD - DVD/CD Multi-Drive - Wireless-N - Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 15 inch (15.6") Display - 1920 x 1080 Display |

For the wifi thing you can buy a wireless usb adaptor for cheap on amazon and not have to worry about drilling holes in the wall.

The question you really need to ask is: Do I want a laptop or do I want a desktop. If desktop is your answer, for your budget, I would recommend the Vanquish II Ultimate.
You don't need to discount desktops because of distance from home routers. As ArkansasWoman777 has pointed out, the USB wifi dongles are very inexpensive. The Vanquish 2 is perfectly capable of going wireless right out of the box with this adapter. As a matter of fact, I've already laid plans to put my Vanquish 2 Ultimate on the other side of house. I'm not running 100' of cable and drilling holes when a $12 dongle will do the same job. According to Amazon reviews, this is one of the best: http://www.amazon.com/Panda-300Mbps-Wireless-N-Adapter-button/dp/B00EQT0YK2 Edited by Snaike - 13 Jul 2014 at 11:04pm |

If this system is for gaming, then I would focus on the GPU more than the CPU. A mobile GPU is generally going to be less powerful then the desktop part. I couldn't find a direct comparison of these two GPUs, since they are focused on different markets.
The 860M is, most likely, a Maxwell part (there are two GPUs being sold as "860M"), Maxwell is the newest core from Nvidia. While the 770 is a Kepler is the core used in the 700 series other than the 750 Ti. Looking at the numbers it looks like the 770 is going to be the faster of the GPUs, but with different generation cores, it is hard to tell for sure. The 860M also supports DirectX 11.2 versus 11.0 for the 770. Also, comparing the model numbers for the desktop CPUs to the Mobile ones isn't the best direct comparison. The primary benefit you get with the i7 in this case is the inclusion of Hyper-Threading, running two threads per core. Unlike the GPUs these are both of the Haswell generation. The 4590's base clock is 3.3GHz vs the 4820QM's 2.8GHz. The 4820QM's turbo clock is 3.8GHz vs the 4590's 3.7GHz. But, with the more limited cooling in a laptop versus a desktop, I expect the 4590, will be able to maintain its turbo clock longer. If it were me, I would go with the Vanquish. Mostly because I wouldn't have to worry about cooling issues of a laptop. Of course, the laptop will draw less power both under load and at idle. Also, the benefit of a desktop is you can swap out parts, which is much harder with a laptop. I hope I didn't confuse you more. One thing to do is compare benchmarks if you can find some for both builds. Maybe DS could get you something. Edited by danjw1 - 14 Jul 2014 at 7:02am |

Building upon the previous post. The current top of the line mobile GTX 880M is equivalent to a GTX 770 in terms of performance.
A GTX 860M would be a definite major downgrade in terms of raw GPU power. |
