How long do you think the Vanquish II level 2 will be able to run new games for before requiring an upgrade?

A gaming rig that meets your needs now will probably be good for 2-3 years before a graphics card upgrade for the same level of play. A lot depends on what you play, the monitor you use and your expectations.

I agree it's about expectations and what you like.

For me, I don't need to run on ultra. I can turn down shadows and other effects and still enjoy a game.

These are really the key factors.
  • Cutting-edge FPS games such as Crysis tend to advance faster and render older machines obsolete than other genres such as strategy games.
  • If you buy a new monitor with a higher resolution, your existing machine won't be able to drive it at the same performance level as a lower resolution monitor.
  • The lower you're willing to go on quality settings, the longer your hardware will keep up. If you're willing to drop down to "Low" settings, your rig will probably still support most games 5 years out, and many games even longer than that.

Some even longer.  I was able to nurse a 10 year old (non-gaming) system into playing well beyond it's expiration date.

So, the answer remains... the machine will last as long as you're willing to make compromises on quality.
