I would just wait until you get it, and if performance is impacted, you can just go to Microsoft's website and pay a little bit to upgrade to pro. If it isn't, then don't upgrade. Tell us how it works out.

Orange7 is right. I don't think its going to be an issue and if it is, then its a simple upgrade. You've got some great gaming ahead.....Enjoy

I agree with bprat22. Windows use to include the GPU memory in the total memory to use but that has changed. Windows-7 will operate with up to 16Gb of system memory. If this is totally a gaming machine then you could go with 8Gb and be good to go. I just mentioned the 16Gb system memory limit as many who buy the X79 platform are doing intense CPU work besides gaming.
If you don't order your T-Shirt they won't send it. Call them before your computer ships and they will send it to you.

No, no, that free T-Shirt should be worn to Best Buy when you go there.

Alas, DS had no T-shirts for me when I got my machine, or I would be doing just that.

"Bryan,
The message board is correct. Windows 7 Home Premium cannot see more than 16gb of ram. In order to use all 28gb you will need to upgrade to Pro or Ultimate. You can also wait until Windows 8 Pro comes out as well."
and there you have it.

i know i said this before but a HUGE THANK YOU to bpratt, frank, orange, ghost, and everyone else that has helped a n00ber out. woulda been clueless without you guys. will def update you guys once everything is up and running. aside from the computer, i went with the dell u2711 27" monitor for its great res and good review on cnet, and the "SteelSeries Merc Stealth Gaming Keyboard" cause it has that speciel section on the left side for fps-challenged noobers like muah.
so again, thank you gentlemen

The memory statement got me thinking, and worried since my system should be shipping any day. I emailed Alex, he confirmed system memory is what Windows 7 supports. So if you get Home Premium like I did, 16gb ram is the max, the 2gb 7970m card I have does not factor in. Gald to clear that up, as I didnt want to spend 100$ to upgrade at this late in my build.

well i wonder how it works out that in your case, it doesn't add up to being more memory than windows can handle but my case is different. oh well. I'm leaving it to the pros.

mine added up to 18gb, 16 system and 2gb gpu, thats why I asked Alex. He replied in 10 mins, telling me its only system memory. So for me it works out, I have the max.
