Topic: Velox configuration for 1440 Posted: 18 Apr 2015 at 9:10am |
I have been out of the gaming PC world for a good while and finally want to jump back in. This time instead of building my own I wanted to go with DS. Would this configuration run most games on highest settings at 1440? Thanks!

Hi Spectraldust... That is an excellent build and the only thing I would change is the Seagate HDD to the Western Digital Black for another $19. A better drive with longer warranty.
Ship date is the end of May in case you didn't see it. Looks like a winner to me and Good Luck. |

Hi Spectraldust,
The Velox is one of my favorite cases. You have a good build but you could make some changes. 1. Change the EVO 120 SSD to a Pro 128 for $26. Better yet would be to get the 256 Pro. 2. Change the Seagate 1Tb HDD to the 1TB Western Digital HDD - Black Edition for $18. 3. This case has a lot of fans and you might want to get the Digital Storm Thermal Management Control Board & Software. This will let you monitor temps throughout the case and adjust fans. You can also adjust fans with the MB Bios. 4. For gaming you don't need the sound card unless you have a sound system of some kind. Frank Edited by FrankW - 18 Apr 2015 at 10:20am |

With the changes mentioned above you will be on top of the game. The Pro is a bit faster then the Evo. The internal controller on the PRO is different than the EVO. The PRO offers a 10 Year Warranty, while the EVO offers 5 Years. (a longer life but you probably wouldn't notice the speed difference in real-world scenarios) Having the 120Gb SDD myself I would recommend the 256Gb SDD. The soundcard isn't needed for gaming but if you had 5.1 or 7.1 surround that card rocks! |

I did not feel the LED option was well implemented on my Velox I did order it, and after getting it, I replaced the top fans they had given me with some larger 140mm fans I ordered myself. It's possible they have improved on what they did for me, but wanted you to know if you had not yet ordered A lot of the fans were hardwired to the power supply as opposed to the motherboard. I did some rewiring, but it seems like the controller board mentioned above would have given me more control. In retrospect, I would have gone with the board The case is like a tank, and seems to be about the best airflow case I have seen. Good luck with your purchase |

Hey Spectraldust! It looks like this build could potentially go above and beyond 1440. I just went through a fair amount of research wrt a very similar build that I did with DS and it "should" perform decently (not perfectly by any means) on 4K. The big differences between that one and your's are the video cards (I went with the EVGA 970s in SLI Overclocked). For the money, it appears to be the better choice. If you're going 1440p, I'd highly recommend the 970s, but can understand why you'd go with the 980s. Awesome build, though! It should definitely run whatever you throw at it in 1440p.
