Budget:
3500ish Thanks for the refund uncle sam. Expectations: Years and years and years. Usage: Mostly photo editing and some gaming Special Needs: years and years of use. speed with photos Saved Ticket #: 1169758 Hi all. Been lurking for a while ( read a yr or so ) and just want to know if this is serious overkill for my needs..? It is. :) I use the desktop for the usual suspects... internet, work training, some heavy gaming at times, ( the Bio-shock series being the last heavy hitter ) but mostly it's used for photo editing. No pro skills picture wise but I do take and edit way too many pics! Lightroom 4 has been the latest version since 5 requires something other than my 2009 Dell Studio XPS 435T ( upgraded memory and video card ) with Vista! So... uber fast chip, a change over to the 850 pro ssd, ( from what I've read here ) a cooling fan upgrade mostly for looks, and a liquid cooling upgrade for the warranty. Also, I just want to double check that the Velox case has a CF card reader ( by the pics ) since the description says only SD and micro SD. So is this overkill..? Probably. But do keep in mind that I tend to keep things for a very long time. Thanks in advance. D~ |

Mine seems to have some reader on it, but I have not tested it
Did not look at your ticket, but I am very impressed with the ASUS Strix 980 card. No idea if your budget allows for that |

Hi CaptTu. That build looks real good. I would suggest changing the 5930k cpu to the 5820k to save $243 if you want. The only real difference between them is the 5930k has 40 lanes of PciE for tri sli and beyond setups and the 5820k has 28 lanes for sli. For your single graphics card or even another in sli, you won't see the difference. The difference in base and turbo clock is insignificant ,especially with your overclocking.
Change the Seagate HDD to the Western Digital Black for another $19 for a better unit with longer warranty. The Velox case with its inverted mobo will require the sealed H100i to be mounted behind the front fans. The tubing isn't long enough for it to be mounted under the top, beyond the graphics card. Not a problem, but just an fyi. Looks good and good luck. |

Thanks for the info! That's what I'm looking for ( ie. hard drive, chip info )
Anyone have any experience with the sound noise reduction options available with the Velox case..? |

Since the Velox is an open chassis, you can't really do much noise dampening. Although, with graphics cards that run idle when not being used, the system is relatively quiet if you tweak fan settings.
Using Hydrolux, you can set fan speeds to near silent when not doing intense gaming/work. |

Hi CaptTu,
I think you are out of luck getting a CF card reader with the Velox case. You will need to get a USB 3.0, CF card reader. To be sure I would ask DS directly. Frank |

I thought the Velox came with a card reader, unless it was recently changed.

Looking at the pics... there are 6 card reading slots on the left side, underneath the DVD drive. I had a small chat with Brian ( iirc ) today, and he said it was an option that I need to select on the options menu.
Not having seen one other than the pics on the site.. I'm guessing that the standard Velox case comes with only the SD / Micro SD slots, ( as listed in the case description) and that the others are extra and added when ordered. Maybe :) Will have to have a phone call or two before the order I'm guessing. |

If DS doesn't have the CF format there are some good ones here, both external and internal.
