Greetings!
So, I am really close to pulling the trigger on a Vanquish II Lv4 (3 is probably enough for me, but I can afford the 4, so...). I just have a couple questions if anyone would be kind enough to answer. While the specs seem fine for me right now, as mostly I just play WoW and SWTOR, I want something that has a little upgrade-ability in the future. I don't want to have to buy another computer in 3 years. That being said, I am by no means a power user, and would simply like to be able to upgrade the CPU to an i7 at some point, and probably the RAM. I see that the RAM is upgradeable to 16gb, which is fine for me, but I am curious as to the CPU. Is that something that someone who is only somewhat hardware savvy could do, and is it possible to do with this motherboard? I have read some things about DS's choice of MBs for this model, so just want some clarification before I purchase. If it IS possible, what are the CPU models that I could upgrade to?? Thanks, all! |

Hello Levine12 and welcome to the DS Forums.
I have the Vanquish II Ultimate (Level 4). I know the RAM will upgrade to 16Gb as long as you remember the mobo only has 2 slots so it will be 2x8Gb replacement, not 2x4Gb addition. As far as the gaming is concerned, yes... right now I'm playing Skyrim (heavily modded with textures), Rust (Unoptimized), World of tanks, AC:BF 4 and about 7 others, all on highest or ultimate settings. I get a maximum 60fps with my vsynch and physx on and have rarely seen any fps drop below 40 in the most demanding of situations. The 770GTX card in the lvl 4 is perfect for my needs. I can't speak to upgrading the CPU. The smart folks will be here soon to help with that part. I can tell you that for a $1500 budget, (with peripherals, tax and shipping) you can not find a better deal than the Vanquish II Ultimate. I absolutely adore this machine. Cheers. |

You can upgrade to the i7 cpu. The i7-4770k or 4790k with their LGA 1150 pin count would be the ones.
The motherboard in Vanquish doesn't have the power for overclocking the cpu, so a non-k chip would save you some money, like i7-4770 or i7-4790. But, the 4790k does have a faster base and turbo clock speed vs. the non-k 4790 . Base/Turbo for 4790 is 3.6/4.0 Ghz Base/Turbo for 4790k is 4.0/4.4 Ghz The 4790k is also the better pick over the 4770k. It's the new Haswell refresh with better thermal interface under the cpu lid. Makes for a few degrees better running. Hope this helps. Snaike beat me to it. Edited by bprat22 - 01 Sep 2014 at 10:44am |

Told ya. See, bprat and I started at the same time, but he's so smart he had to type out that paragraph about the CPU and I didn't, so I got to press enter first. muwahhahahaha |
