Do I need 500GBs or should I stick with 250GBs? I'm a gamer but I only play a couple games at once so Maybe I don't need 500GBs.

One of the more experienced hardware folks will need to answer your specific questions.

One thing that might help is telling us what all of your storage will be with the SSD and how you plan to use it.

For instance. I have a 1 x 480GB Corsair Neutron GTX and 4 x 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black. I use the SSD for two of my Operating Systems: Windows 7 and CentOS (Linux). On the 4 HDDs I have placed my games, my library files (My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, etc), and several other operating systems: Steam OS, Debian, and openSUSE.

The layout I am using allows me to place my every day OSs on the SSD, where they will benefit from the speedy service. My "experimental" OSs, bulk files, and games are on the HDDs where they have plenty of room to grow.  Smile

That drive will fit laptop or desktop, assuming the laptop isn't an ultra thin that needs the smaller 1.8 vs this 2.5".    A typical 2.5" drive is interchangeable.

I also have a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black. I only use 1 OS and plan to put a few games I play at that time on it like Battlefield 4 and Skyrim. Not sure if I'm going to put office on it yet.
