More noobness for those who can stand it. Ya'll have been helpful so far, thank you for that
I love my Krypton and plan on using it for quite a bit. I'm wondering how "future-proof" my Krypton is. Could someone with no experience in changing out components reasonably do so with the combined resources of online guides and this forum, or should I rely on DS to upgrade my system? I can only imagine it being the GPU I switch out but I'm still new to this whole thing. Hopefully I can do it myself. I want to learn more about computers and experience seems to be the best teacher. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Bro, that comes down to you and you a lone. Do you feel confident enough in yourself to remove and add component to your expensive piece of equipment or not.

I just wanted a little information on how difficult that might be. As it stands at this moment, do I feel comfortable enough? No, not at all.
But I was hoping someone who had done something similar would stroll by and add their 2 cents on the relative difficulty of such an upgrade. Who knows, if I hear from someone who's done it before I might come to the conclusion that it's something I could manage. Just looking for that info is all. |

Here's a video that shows how the fans and heatsink/pipes are removed from the bottom of a typical gaming laptop. It is a Clevo like your Krypton, but a 15" model.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSyH-gfSsxI Pictures are worth a thousands words. Video's even better. The cpu is on the left and the gpu on the right. 2 of the ram sticks are right above the cpu. He didn't remove the chips but did show how to get at them, lying underneath. It is very upgradable but is also very expensive to update a laptop. Hope this helps a bit. Here's another video that gives a basic idea of the looks of a cpu and gpu card and the application of thermal paste for both and thermal pads for the gpu card.
