Budget:
Mid-range+ $200? Expectations: Enjoy playing my Steam library without upgrading my card for several more years. Usage: Single monitor gaming (mostly older games, some new) Specifications: Bought a desktop from Digital Storm many years ago (2010) and I've loved it. Recently I've been experiencing crashes that I believed were caused by the graphics card, and sure enough it gave up the ghost today. The current card is a EVGA GeForce GTX 470. I've never been able to wrap my head around all the tiny little differences between cards. Plus the fact that I haven't had to do any research on cards for 4 years. I could use some advice on what I need to look for to get a nice mid-range+ replacement for my rig. Thanks in advance. |

Hi ssargas.. The gtx 750ti is about $150 and will give you about 20% bump over your 470. Reference ones don't even use Pci power connectors from the psu. Just plug it in.
I would however get the gtx 760 for about $250. A little more than your budget but would be a healthy 60% plus bump in fps and give you much better longevity. Gaming is only going to get more demanding and the 760 would keep up for awhile. The gtx 770 for about $350 would be another 20% increase. Hope this helps and good luck. Here is a somewhat recent buyers guide from the end of last month. It should give you a good idea of what is out there right now and pricing.

You can't go wrong with either a GTX 750 Ti, GTX 760 or even an R9 270X. Either choice would be a nice bump with a major reduction in power draw.
