Quick question to throw out there:

Anybody upload ultra-high-def (2160p30; h.264 encoded .mp4 files) videos to Youtube? I'm trying but everytime I do, it only loads as a 360p video. I can't find any upload options where I can change the resolution to process the uploaded video at and as far as I can tell, the files I have created should be compatible.

It's probably on youtube's side.

Not sure but I believe they are limited to 1080p at 60 FPS.

Above that they probably change it to the 380p.

They began offering the ability to upload 1440p and 2160p at 30 FPS and up to 1080p at 60 FPS not too long ago. Here is an example of a clip at 2160p: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vrdgDdPApQ

From what information I've come across, the encoding should be in h.264 and the file type as a .mp4 file, both of which I have.

I don't upload to youtube so I asked a friend and had him look at this post.

He said it might be 2 things.

1: youtube will sometimes set it to what it thinks your internet speed is but is usually wrong.

2: give it some time and check again in your manager due to youtube servers can take their time to convert the video to all the different sizes they have.

hope this makes sense to you because I'm lost.

Okay, thanks for the help. Yeah, I've been at a loss as to why this isn't working as, from what I gather, should.

That makes some sense that it would take some time to make the various resolutions because they are transcoding it to VP9. I assumed it would have been done in the "Processing" step of the upload, but maybe there is more to it.

Cheers

A friend of mine with extensive video experienced echoed what your friend did about it taking time. He said it has taken over a week for a FHD video to become available (so I'm not even sure how long it will take a UHD video). My friend has a strong preference for Vimeo. Unfortunately, Vimeo only supports upload and download of UHD, but not streaming, yet.
