Twitter recently went and bought 900 patents from IBM. The acquisition of these patents will help Twitter defend itself from previous litigations.

This acquisition of patents from IBM and licensing agreement provides us with greater intellectual property protection and gives us freedom of action to innovate on behalf of all those who use our service
- Ben Lee, Legal Director for Twitter.

Ah yes, the  classic IP patent defense process, buy billions of patents so we can counter-sue when we are sued, Big%20Smile
