Hi All!
I'm in the market for a new gaming PC, but a bit limited in funds at the moment. So, I was wondering if it was possible to build a system with GTX 970 for around $1,500? |

Hi hc1980..
Here's a build with the gtx 970, and a overclocked Haswell cpu. Its a bit more but does give you an excellent gaming rig. Config # 1057124 Cost $ 1560 Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Digital Storm VIRTUE Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i5 4690K 3.50 GHz (Codename Devils Canyon) (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Z97M-PLUS (Intel Z97 Chipset) (MATX) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 600W Corsair CX600 Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Storage Set 1: 1x Storage (1TB Western Digital - Black Edition) Storage Set 2: - No Thanks Storage Set 3: - No Thanks RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB (Includes PhysX) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio HPC Processor: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: High Performance Cooler with Large Fan and Copper Pipes H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Airflow Control: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz Boost Graphics Card(s): - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows CD) Virus Protection: FREE: McAfee AntiVirus Plus (1 Year Service Activation Card) (Not Pre-installed) ($35 Value) Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks Portable Gaming: - No Thanks Branded Gear: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 10-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty (3 Year Labor & 1 Year Part Replacement) You can get it closer to $1500 by dropping the overclocked cpu and mobo and , very similar to the Vanquish Lvl 4. Added a SSD drive. Hope this helps and good luck. |

Thanks for both builds! Now I'm wondering if I should spend the extra money and have a system built with gtx 980. Does that need more PSU wattage?

My pleasure.
The 600Watt psu should be fine with the gtx 980. I personally would opt for the 750w for another $13, I believe, even with the gtx 970 if the budget allows. It just gives you extra headroom for the future. |

Another easily overlooked advantage of the CX750M or EVGA 750w psu, is that they are both semi modular and modular, meaning the cables from them unplug from the unit for easy swap if ever an issue. The CX750M does have the mobo cables hard wired in but the others are plug in. Better than snaking the cables in and out if the unit needs replacing, not that it ever will.

Okay, sorry to bother you again. This is my final build ... i think. Now, the only other thing I'm missing is a decent gaming monitor that will go well with my gpu.

Nice. Looks like a winner to me. Love the psu and gtx 980 add-ons.
For a monitor, I use a Dell Ultra Sharp U2311H at 1920x1080. The 980 will play great with that resolution. That's an older model and there was a time the Dell's got a lot of votes, but there are so many real nice monitors, maybe some others will weigh in on their picks Edited by bprat22 - 01 Oct 2014 at 10:28am |

I just picked up an LG 29UM65 29" Ultra-wide monitor (2560x1080) for $299 on a Shell-Shocker deal from NewEgg last week. I hooked it up and connected it to my Krypton to play Skyrim.

Hi guys,
I was wondering about the price of the system HC listed above as his final build? Im alsoin the position of having MAYBE 1500 to play with. I play mostly mmo's an in fact Id like to build a system that can run Elder Scrolls online in Ultra with out any problems. One issue I have to consider is that I have the warmest room in the house durin the summer, temps can exceed 80 degrees. So I need something that can stay cool. Also if possible id like to get t something I can upgrade over time as this mcahine has to last me prolly 3 years:) Any advice ya can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nico:) |

Hi Nicodaemus1.... The final build that HC posted is about $1859. If you want something closer to the $1500, then look at the builds I posted for him, or drop the gtx 980 for the 970 and that knocks it down to about $1600. Both cards on a 1920x1080 monitor will play great, most gaming on High to max.
For a little more airflow, you can use the Coridium case, The Corsair 450D, which has an added front fan for 2 total on the front. I game at 80F during the summer and have no issue. Going too much higher will effect the cooling regardless of the number of fans. Blowing hot air on the components just tends to kick the heat around. All the rigs here are easily upgradable. Hope this helps and good luck. |
