Interested in opinions by my trustworthy forum gang. Was pricing a new Aventum II but want to see how much power plant I can still stuff into my legacy Silverstone TJ09 build as an upgrade option. Would hate to waste the spacious case and its great airflow despite the wonderfully advanced Aventum II case. Here’s my old rig (2008 build) for triple monitors: Digital Storm 950Si – MB: nVidia 790i Chip: QX9770 RAM: 16MB 1600MHz GPU: 3x GTX 280 in SLI Cooling: Dual Loop H20 (cards and chip) w/3 rads Here’s a link to my old DS review w/pics: Review My first upgrade option is to gut out the MB, GPUs and dual loop system and upgrade the case with: MB: ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition X79 Chip: Intel i7 4960X 3.6GHz RAM: 32GB DDR3 1866MHz GPU: 3x GTX 780 TI 3GB in SLI Cooling: Option A) Hydrolux Level 4 H2O or Option B) Copper Components to upgrade would cost just about $4K + the cost of the DS cooling mod install. Otherwise a new Aventum II tricked out – easily about $8.5K base. Can the TJ09 handle the airflow with all the new firepower? Thanks. Edited by Costone - 15 Mar 2014 at 5:56pm |

Hi Costone.... As long as the case can fit the Rads and their fans, and I see no problem, you should have no cooling issues.
Looks like a dynamite rig in the works. Now to find out the cost to mount all those goodies in your case. Let us know. |

You really don't need a whole new cooling system. If you want to upgrade radiators and pump, then that maybe the best option. Otherwise, you could just upgrade the waterblocks.

Excellent call danjw1!
Makes sense to keep the dual loop system. It's still in great condition and performing flawlessly thanks to good maintenance and an excellent build by DS. I'm a decent surgeon so I decided to do the build DIY instead of dealing with the shipping cost from the east coast (which in itself would cost close to another GPU). Just ordered three Koolance waterblocks and one of those badge EVGA SLI bridges along with the other upgrade components. I'll definitely post pics when it's under construction in about 10 days or so. Thanks again guys for the great feedback! Looking forward to posting the new performance specs. |

I don't know of a better ad for DS than this. Guy buys a ginormously expensive and high-tuned system in 2008, and he's back 5 years later happy as a claim and looking to upgrade (even if DIY). Gives me a lot of confidence buying my own puny little system that this guy's sytem's shipping box would sneer at!

Very true Socks223! I have nothing but admiration and high praise for the DS crew (and their outstanding Support team as in my case). I feel like an Indy driver with a totally reliable car, and the best on-call pit crew at the ready. I admit I was a bit nervous at first giving that much trust and cold lettuce to a custom builder that I wasn't all that familiar with at the time. But like you, I got excited when I saw that their build work was immaculate and I knew that I was buying top-shelf quality. Plus the intricate system shipped cross-country without a hitch or scratch...!
So when you invest in such a solid, well-built rig (regardless of your system price) it buys you years of reliable upgrade performance where other builders fall short. In 2008 I wanted and knew that going in....and now five years later I know that I will continue get a lot of life out of this rig even if I get another system. Totally impressed! Ok. I think I earned a Tee shirt now...this commercial is over Edited by Costone - 18 Mar 2014 at 8:20pm |

Anticipation...
Those of you who have ever ordered a custom rig or components know all too well that the absolute best and worst part is surviving the wait. I’ll have to stare at these pups until my MB and waterblocks come in by mid next week in order to start my upgrade. Beautiful sight though... Just in today (Thu. 3/20). Deliveries moving along swiftly...love it! (Sat. 3/22) The fresh blood plasma has arrived (3x 700ml) with two new Swiftech reservoirs to supply the heart... (Tue. 3/25) Finally! The three ice cold waterblocks delivered. Time to schedule the operation... Tales from the OR
Yes Superman is airborne fstcvc! Sorry guys for the long delay. Gonna put up a review with pics and temps later this week and move this post over to the review forum. Delighted to say that the upgrade surgery went flawlessly. I thought of video recording the build but since it was my first upgrade on a dual loop system I didn’t want the distraction. Here’s a teaser shot of the rig with the three cards on air before I cracked them for waterblocks last night: The CPU loop is active and the GPU loop is bypassed until the waterblock assembly is popped in. I'm keeping the classic look with the clear tubing and colored fluid for now. So currently, Superman is back under anesthesia at the moment awaiting two adjustable vid connectors (the original fixed-height post connectors (designed for the old 280 waterblocks) were slightly too tall by about 1/8” and spread the waterblock plates too far apart for the SLI bridge to fit properly! Then it’s down to some focused cable management, interior lighting and tightening up the dual loops. Might do quick connects at a later time... |

Superman is an appropriate name - that rig packs one hell of a punch!
Any plans on how you're going to put it to the test? Surround-screen gaming? 4K? Per Digital Storm's benchmarks your setup should handle Ultra settings at 4K! |

Thanks guys. Yeah I'm also planning on 4K but right now this is my current setup:
Two Dell 24" at 1600 and middle 30" at 2560. I'm building out an acoustic space in the attic designed around the system with it's own dedicated A/C to help temper the summer months. I do mostly flight simulators, gaming, and also some very intense 3D construction modeling and geospatial stuff.. Right now: Busy loading Titanfall and a bunch of other game titles, drivers, etc. before my review. Really loving the ASUS OC panel which I parked into my top 5 1/4" bay. |

Thanks AW777! Only thing left at this point is updating the G15 keyboard and also a new Razer gaming mouse. And mixing a redder-looking fluid in the CPU loop with Feser One. Nothing against that unexpected pink UV but hey.... it's Superman... Best |
