Hi all! I just stumbled upon Digital Storm while doing some research on boutique and mainstream gaming computers. Here is the configuration I came up with.

I just had some concerns and questions-

Is the case a bit small for this configuration?
Will my pc be fairly loud?
Which cooling should I choose?
Will I be able to handle games like CoD4 at high settings without any lag or do I need to upgrade?
Will overclocking shorten my PC's life?

Any other suggestions to the configuration is welcomed. Thanks.

Just some bullet points:

  • Don't really know about the cases. IMHO, you'll wish you had a bigger one....
  • 4 Gig of RAM is unnecessary for gaming and at least partially wasted unless you plan switching to a 64-bit OS soon.
  • If you're going RAID0, you should have a third HD for doing backups, unless there is nothing on the RAID that you care about losing and you don't mind reinstalling everything once in a blue moon.
  • I think maybe the definitions have just changed, but upgrading to Stage II cooling used to be a smart idea.
  • Overclocking your computer does shorten the life span of the components. The question is will it die, before it becomes obsolete; probably not. DSO guarantees their overclocked H/W for three years. If it lasts that long, it will probably last 5 years. After that, you probably won't care.
  • Get XP Pro instead of Vista or at least get a dual boot set up. Many people disagree, but I still think getting Vista is asking for trouble for little or no benefit.
