    Posted: 12 Jul 2014 at 6:02pm
I am looking for any suggestions to reduce the noise level of the configuration below. (e.g. I would appreciate any advice on the video-card selection). Is it possible that I might be better off with a less powerful but quieter card, given my monitor resolution?

Budget:
<$2500

Expectations:
- Stable PC for everyday use and occasional gaming. I have dual monitors @ 1920x1200
- Size limitations prevent me from looking at bigger cases
- I am returning an ibuypower Revolt because it's too noisy and video driver is constantly crashing, so I am hoping that Bolt will provide a better experience

Specifications:

Configuration Code:     1010160

Processor: Intel Core i5 4670K 3.40 GHz (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core)
Motherboard: ASUS Z97I-PLUS (Intel Z97 Chipset) (Mini-ITX)
System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1866MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested)
Power Supply: 500W Digital Storm Bolt II Edition (Quiet) (Gold Plus Rated)
Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 8x / CD-Writer 8x) (Slim Slot Loading Edition)
Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (120GB Samsung 840 EVO)
Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (2TB Western Digital/Seagate/Hitachi)
Graphics Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 2GB (Includes PhysX)
Extreme Cooling: 240mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler (Extreme-Performance Edition)
Chassis Fans: High Static Pressure - Corsair Air Series SP120 Fans (2x 120mm)
Internal Lighting: Front Panel + Internal Chassis (RGB LED Lighting System)
Airflow Control: Digital Storm Thermal Management Control Board & Software
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition)

From all I've heard, there isn't anything you have to do to make a quieter Bolt 2. Most gaming video cards do make noise as the stress on them in gaming increases. The fan increases in rpm to deal with the heat. Reviews I've read give the Bolt a very good score in noise.

With 2 monitor 1200p gaming I would go for the AMD Radeon 280X or 290X. I am not sure how the noise characteristics are for those versus the Nvidia cards, but they will out perform the comparable Nvidia cards ~5% in multi-monitor gaming.

Here is a buyers guide for the current GPU market: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8225/best-video-cards-june-2014

I would do research on the noise characteristics of the different cards, if this is such an important issue for you. I don't know if you might be able to consider something a little bigger, like a Micro-ATX build or if even that is going to be too big. Micro-ATX case will be bigger, but offer more cooling options.
