So I'm really excited for StarCraft 2, but I've never really played the original StarCraft. Would it be worth it to pick up the StarCraft Battlechest now or should I just wait for SC2?

Well, I havent played it either, but I would assume that the original would just be dissapointing now that we are in the future and all. I figure that the entirety of its allure is held for those that played it in the past when the graphics werent a limitation and the gameplay was more original.

On the other hand, it is a classic with worldwide proven appeal. And if you plan on moving to South Korea in particular, its a great buy.

I fully intend to buy the new one as I would like to experience pylon construction and zergs for once.

The graphics and colors are cartoony, but there's some great, corny humor throughout the game. You can play all three factions. (4 if you count the UED, United Earth Directorate).

Personally, I love the gameplay. It is classic RPG, with base building, upgrading, and unit construction. After all this time, I still enjoy playing SC from time to time. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves RTS games. Graphics are eye candy, while game play is the heart of any RTS.

SC is awesome, although I prefer WC3 now...despite thinking SC is probably the better game.

Starcraft is definitely better as far as stock gameplay goes, but Warcraft wins hands down with the amount of quality player-made that are available.

honestly to any fan of computer games or to anyone who has ever slightly liked RTS games you NEED to play SC and BW(the expansion) these games pretty much marked the next step in the evolution of gaming.
If you require proof, ask someone who *still* plays a game that came out in 1998. (me) or check out battle.net, where you will still find THOUSANDS of people logged on at every hour of the day to play online.

This game was a groundbreaker in a ton of ways, say what you will about the graphics, but any hardcore gamer knows that eyecandy is just that, and the real fun in gaming is the entire expeirince. What it lacks in visual luster, it makes up in about every other way

recently ive played through crysis, cod4, command&conquer3, wow(led raids up to and past Gruul's back in my day)
and if i had to pick ONE game to own as my only for the rest of my life it would be starcraft and the exp. (counter strike may be a close second.)

Yeah StarCraft just plain rocks! I have the WC3 battlechest and while I really like that game too, it gets beat out by SC imo. I didn't know how competitive RTS games were until I got WC3 and SC though lol The APM and micro/macro needed to play as a pro is insane!
