I'll be using this computer for gaming and only using one monitor. Is it a good setting? Any recommendations would be helpful since this is my first time ever configuring a computer. |

With that budget, why an AMD CPU? I would go with a Haswell CPU. You could afford a 6 core if you want (12 total virtual cores.) For gaming you don't need a 6 core, so you can even go cheaper, but a 6 core might be nice in the future.
Power supply is excessive for a one GPU system IMO. Excessive even for a dual GPU system, I think I run closer to 1000 watts in my current PC and the new cards seem to use less power. Nothing wrong with future proofing or personal preference, but I would, personally, go a bit cheaper on the supply. You can live with 16 GB, but I would also choose 32 GB I would consider dual GTX 980 over Titan Z, but that's a personal choice. You could study some benchmarks and balance cost, vs any hassle with SLI vs. gaming performance Edited by michaeljhuman - 26 Jan 2015 at 2:21pm |

This should suit you a bit better:

Also, mechanical keyboards are very nice to type on or game with, so you may want to consider that. And the speakers you picked out, will work but won't be exceptional in any way. Search the forum for advice on these...there is plenty out there. |

Just to chime in... I would also go with the sli gtx 980 over the Titan Z. The sli 980 will be better performance and less power usage. The Titan Z is a great pick for a small form factor case that only allows a single card. Otherwise, the sli 980 is cheaper and more flexible. If your Titan Z goes bad and not covered by warranty, you'll be out a chunk of money. If a 980 fails, its cheaper to replace and gives you another to fall back on.
Plus, the Titan Z is still SLI, just on a single card. and it does have more vram, but not the 12gb some think, but 6 gb per gpu on the card. Vram doesn't stack in sli, so the Titan Z is 6gb usable and the sli 980 has 4 gb usable. I would also go with the i7-4790k cpu you were shown and the mobo to match. The Intel is a much better pick. AMD has more cores but doesn't utilize them as well as would be expected. Here's a link to help make the decision. http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-vs-AMD-FX-9370/2384vs2005 You can also drop the Chassis mod, side blow holes.... The 550D has two mounts/cutout already for fans if needed. The side acoustic panel is removable. Just an FYI.... Not sure in your case, but the 550D is sometimes selected for being the quietest case, but that's if the top and side acoustic panels stay on. The 280mm rad you selected will mount under the top,and require the top panel to remain off at all times for proper venting. Hope this helps. Edited by bprat22 - 27 Jan 2015 at 5:54am |
