eh, I have faith in laptop overclocking. if the cooling system is sufficient, there;s a chance of a small overclock potential. hey, after replacing the TIM on my dell, it's been able to keep max CPU temps under 65C after 2 months. mx-2 is a wonderful thing, this is on a Latitude D820 with a T2300 C2D by the way. with a clevo and it's sweet multi-fan system, i don't see why there wouldn't be a smidge of overclocking potential in it.

If I get the free over clocking with standard cooling will it damage the processor?

Not always does it damage the CPU. Some stock coolers can withstand an oc, but it depends on how much oc'ing is to be done.
I personally would get an after-market cooler just to be safe. Not expensive these days.

It does not matter if it can "stand it" and be stable whatsoever. If you overclock something, thus raising temperatures, without compensating for the additional heat, then you shorten the life of your product, potentially drastically. Not that you can't get a decent mild overclock with a stock cooler, just that the point is in answer to this question, a stock CPU with a stock cooler will last longer than an overclocked CPU with a stock cooler. No way around that.

That's what I meant by "I personally would get an after-market cooler just to be safe." I should've elaborated more. Lesson learned.

Just joined and I want to say how invaluable this thread is.
I have been browsing various sites and customizing different rigs (laptops, All-In-Ones, Desktops) and, I must say, I could have easily spent money on useless components and/or overpaid because of fancy titles. I definitely want to make my (hopefully) upcoming purchase here (i hope no longer than the next 4-6 months...yes, I started preparing already haha)
A section on recommended configs for a gaming Laptop would be most appreciated. Thanks again to everybody here, and i'll continue saving my pennies!!!

Hi dodgers2213. If you would like config recommendations, please post a seperate thread in the Configuration Discussion and specify what it will be used for, your budget, and anymore.

This post seems to heavily favor the open air 932 case and air cooling.
Is this a good option if I want to get dual sli 480 video cards?

Computer will be used for.
40% Starcraft 2 40% Diablo 3 <--- when it comes out the system requirments are still unknown. 10% Word Processing 10% Web Surfing
Budget $1600 - $2000
I have keyboard, mouse, and LCD TV.
I will not need extra space for, music, movies, maybe in time but at the moment no need.
I'm stuck picking out the right GPU, I just want to be able to play on Full Ultra settings with no FPS lag. 1600mhz ram or 2000mhz? Will I notice a difference playing these 2 games?
I have been told that starcraft 2 is very CPU intensive, if this is true will the basic 4 core work for my needs?
So far the I like the idea of the HAF 932 but I can save a few bucks with the HAF 922.
I hope I have posted in the correct forum. Please advise me, I'm itching to spend my money.

!ender_,
I was reading through the guide for like the 27th time when I noticed this:
Stage 6:Double check and triple check Another separate analysis to make sure all of the correct components are in
place, all tests in each stage were completely properly, any special
requests were properly completed, and any requested software is in
place.
I believe that should be "completed"
Not a big deal, but on the off chance it confused anyone.

small update for the gtx 570, overall its nothing new except for a few things
basically replaces the 480
lower power consumption
lower noise
470 currently: $257
480 currently: $469
580 currently: $674
570 is claiming to release at about $350... which is great news for price/performance as it beats the 480 in pretty much everything and gives the same or more performance at less noise/heat for less money

And not everybody agrees with it, I personally would recommend people not follow some of the advise given here.
Everybody remember this is just one person's opinion.

Kapoof this is not the place to post your question, please open your own thread and ask your question there please. (just copy and paste this in your own thread)
The advise in this thread is not correct and outdated, its just an opinion of a user, its not DS's stand on things, it just ender's opinions and most are not correct, do not follow this guide.

Yes, this guide is unfortunately critically outdated...
But, if I may ask, is anyone already working on a new version?
Or may I produce a new version? I have much experience with computers and have learned what people in this forum are suggesting.
Just asking... (Alex?)
