eh, I have faith in laptop overclocking. if the cooling system is sufficient, there;s a chance of a small overclock potential. hey, after replacing the TIM on my dell, it's been able to keep max CPU temps under 65C after 2 months. mx-2 is a wonderful thing, this is on a Latitude D820 with a T2300 C2D by the way. with a clevo and it's sweet multi-fan system, i don't see why there wouldn't be a smidge of overclocking potential in it.

If I get the free over clocking with standard cooling will it damage the processor?

Some stock coolers can withstand an oc, but it depends on how much oc'ing is to be done.   I personally would get an after-market cooler just to be safe. Not expensive these days.

It does not matter if it can "stand it" and be stable whatsoever.

If you overclock something, thus raising temperatures, without compensating for the additional heat, then you shorten the life of your product, potentially drastically.

Not that you can't get a decent mild overclock with a stock cooler, just that the point is in answer to this question, a stock CPU with a stock cooler will last longer than an overclocked CPU with a stock cooler. No way around that.

Just joined and I want to say how invaluable this thread is.

I have been browsing various sites and customizing different rigs (laptops, All-In-Ones, Desktops) and, I must say, I could have easily spent money on useless components and/or overpaid because of fancy titles. I definitely want to make my (hopefully) upcoming purchase here (i hope no longer than the next 4-6 months...yes, I started preparing already haha)

A section on recommended configs for a gaming Laptop would be most appreciated. Thanks again to everybody here, and i'll continue saving my pennies!!!

Yes, !ender_ has created a great resource for all of us. Any recommendation on a lappy would be outdated by Xmas, so stay tuned, and welcome!

40% Starcraft 2
40% Diablo 3 <--- when it comes out the system requirments are still unknown.
10% Word Processing
10% Web Surfing

Budget $1600 - $2000


I have keyboard, mouse, and LCD TV.

I will not need extra space for, music, movies, maybe in time but at the moment no need.

I'm stuck picking out the right GPU, I just want to be able to play on Full Ultra settings with no FPS lag. 1600mhz ram or 2000mhz? Will I notice a difference playing these 2 games?

I have been told that starcraft 2 is very CPU intensive, if this is true will the basic 4 core work for my needs?

So far the I like the idea of the HAF 932 but I can save a few bucks with the HAF 922.

I hope I have posted in the correct forum. Please advise me, I'm itching to spend my money.
